Since its getting close to decision day I figured I could make a post where all the fall 2018 transfer hopefuls can have a place to post questions, concerns, or just vent about worries they may have.
For me, I’m applying to transfer into Psychology and I meet all their minimum requirements for competitive applicants and I have a 3.89 GPA. I applied last year to transfer for fall 2017 under a different major and I was denied, but I was only a freshman and didnt have 30 credit hours and didnt meet all of the minimum requirements. Im SUPER nervous. I havent applied to any other schools yet. Most of the other NC Schools have rolling admissions and deadlines until June 1 so I’ll have time to apply somewhere else if I dont get in. I wish there was a way to meet with an admissions rep and have them just tell you if you got in or not!
I am confident that I will be accepted, but there is still that little sliver of doubt that won’t go away until I actually get the acceptance decision. The day we get notified of the decision is the day after my birthday, so I am kind of extra anxious for that reason, though it’s illogical. I do not know if I would want to apply anywhere else if I do not get into NCSU, but I may end up applying elsewhere if I don’t get in for some reason.
@SewerAlex I hope you get in, especially since the decision is being given on your bday!! From last years experience, they don’t release decisions on weekends. So we will probably find out Friday the 13 which is a little scary lol.
What program are you applying into and from where?
@PStransfer1842 I am applying to the Forestry Management major in the College of Natural Resources. I am transferring from Cape Fear Community College with an Associate in Science. I also have credits from the University of Rhode Island, where I did my first year of college. My grades are solid, but I did not take Chemistry or Biology, so I am a tad nervous about that. However, I do have Calculus and (non-calc based) Physics I & II.
I was at a university my freshman year as well. are Chem and bio minimum requirements for admissions for the program your applying into?
So I’m a freshman at UNCG and I am hoping to transfer to NCSU this fall. By the end of this semester I will have 32 credits. I looked at their website at the recommendations for competitive applicants for the college of humanities and social sciences, since I applied for psychology and it says:
3.0 and above GPA
English Composition
College-level Math (Statistics cannot be used to meet the math requirement)
I have above a 3.0 GPA and I took an english last semester and got an A+. The only thing I’m worried about is that my math is still in progress since I am taking it right now. I’ve seen some people get denied because they hadn’t taken a math yet so I am scared. But I’m currently taking it so does this mean something to them? I’m so nervous I really hope I get in because State is where I want to be.
@psych0204 I have seen this as a common issue among many applying and have also seen mixed outcomes. I would say to keep working really hard in case you were deferred or something. Otherwise, you meet all of the other requirements. They should also at least be able to see that you are enrolled in a math so hopefully that bodes well for you. Just keep working hard and hopefully good news will come your way. Good luck!
If one of the requirements is to have at least 30 credits that’s after this semester right? Or was I supposed to have the 30 credits before turning my application in?
Yes after the semester, I’m in the same boat too, I’ll have 31 at the end of this term.
If you do not have the 30 credits at the time of application they will look at your high school stats as well.
@psych0204 I tried transferring last year from UNCG with a 3.74 into NCSU’s Psych program but without a math and was denied, but the fact you are taking a math is REALLY good, I’m hoping you get in and that you aren’t stuck another year at UNCG like me! GOOD LUCK!!
Now, I am trying to transfer to NCSU’s Social Work program with a 3.14 GPA and over 60 credits this semester BUT I still have not taken a math based on the fact that I only have to take a stats class for my major here and otherwise I would be wasting a class if I didn’t get into NCSU. This being said, I am still worried about it because of the recommendation of the math still, but again I am only supposed to take a statistic course. Can someone help?
@Kennedytouncorncsu thank you for your reply and advice! idk i am still really worried about it since the course is still in progress and i’m not really the best at math lol. I am really hoping I get in I love State and feel like I could do really well there.
I think you have a decent shot at getting in honestly. Stats is technically still a math so maybe? and if not you could take one over the summer?
Does anyone think we will find out a week before like the EA and RD students?
No, I satisfied all of the minimum requirements. Chem and Bio are recommended for “competitive applicants.”
I hope we find out soon, because I need to make arrangements for summer classes and living arrangements asap lol, it says on the website that decisions go out March 30th, but they are always late.
Yeah I hope so too, I haven’t heard anything from them. So I guess we will wait
@Kennedytouncorncsu
Where did you see March 30? I have been seeing April 15
@mcastudent413 , last year April 15 was like on a sat and so we found out on the Friday before. But I doubt they will do it a week early
Has anyone heard anything from the admissions staff about when decisions will be posted? I’m guessing Fri 13 Apr, but that’s only a guess.
@trout812 I havent asked but im betting april 13. It would be nice if they told us early since Regular Decision high school seniors found out early!
