Near graduation and questioning my possible major

Hey all, first post, just looking for some advice.

I'm near high school graduation and looking at different intended majors at the moment. Business has always interested me in every possible way. From the inner workings of it, to the social aspect, to the management aspect, I love everything about it. It's been my dream to eventually have or run a business on my own. A few family members of mine have their own small scale businesses (enough to live pretty comfortably on and retire early), and they have no degree whatsoever. They're basically what I want to be in the end. If I can reach higher (and I do), that's fantastic, but that's my marker.

The problem is, I keep hearing about failing business majors. How people invest thousands into the degree with no return, or end up not even using it, etc. That worries me, especially when I look at my family who had success with no degrees. My second choice is something along the lines of a Software Engineer. I'm interested in that, but not with the same level as Business.

Business (with a specialization ofc, possibly accounting?) is something I really want to do, but I'm not sure of the benefits of getting an actual degree because it seems these days anyone can have their own business without it. Would I be better going a different route or are there still solid reasons to have a business degree?

Accounting and Finance classes can help you if you want to start a business because you will be able to better manage your money.
