Necessary?

Hi. I'm reapplying for boarding school this year because last year I couldnt go for financial reasons.
I got a 97% on my SSAT last year (I'm applying as a sophmore) and I was wonndering if I need to retake it. People are telling me that I can just send my old scores,
but I'm not sure if thats true.
Most school websites just had a description of the test and that 9th, 10th and 11th graders should take the SSAT.
Deerfield is the only school that had a note requiring the test to be from the current school year.
Another issue is the writing sample from the SSAT. I'm pretty sure that the schools want that, and if anything else, theres one reason to retake the test.

So my question is, am I allowed to just send my last year scores, or do I have to retake it?

Call them the schools and ask, or write an email to the director. It's the only way to know what they prefer.

I believe the SSAT testing company only sends current year results, including the essay, to schools. As schools only accept scores directly from the SSAT, this means you must retake the SSAT.

You can take heart that scores on standardized tests are relatively stable. You will probably score in the 90s this year.

All the schools my son applied to required CURRENT year SSAT scores. THat said, periwinkle is correct, his scores when up each year (he only took them once per year), so I wouldn't worry about the score. Of course there is the expense and time involved.
The other reason they probably want it current year is that your percentile woudl not be accurate for their stats. It is your 8th grade percentile, which would be accurate for incoming 9th graders, not for an incoming 10th graders.

retake it, and send the old one as well
unless you took it in january, it is mandatory to take it this year. even if they say it's ok to send it (even if its in january, which i did) you should still retake & send another one
97th percentile is a very good score, so i don't think they're going to murder your acceptance prospects if you don't get better than that this year. they don't really look at the ssat, as it has been said numerous times on cc

linda s, actually some schools don't mind that much about comparing with 8th grade/9th grade percentile. the idea is that if you took the upper level ssat then it's suitable to look at. i don't exactly get it either, but that's my opinion =/

no, because they get the percentile based on the people in your current grade in your current year. but maybe if you talked to the school...
