Are there class and/or professor evaluations for the POmona curriculum? Who are the teachers you don't want to miss??????????????

See ratemyprofessor.com

Correct link is www.ratemyprofessors.com

Once you become an official student, you can get access to evaluations of professors and classes through a Pomona website (in addition to ratemyprofessor.com). There are a ton of professors that people want to take classes from at Pomona, but if you want to know specific ones, which departments are you thinking about?

Thanks
I'm interested in History, Economics, English, Classics, Philosophy, Music

I'm the least familiar with Classics and Music, but for the rest:

History - Yamashi-ta*, Wolf (although he just got promoted to the Dean of Faculty, I believe, so he won't be teaching classes for a while)
Economics - Brown, Slavov, and Kuehlwein (although I think I had too high of expectations when I took Kuehlwein's class)
English - Andresen (although she just retired), Saint-Amour, Fitzpatrick
Philosophy - Hurley, Kung

*The first history professor doesn't have the "-" in it.. the message board juts blocks part of his name because it spells a curse word.

Keep in mind that Hurley is now at Claremont McKenna (right, or is it one of the others?). Granted you can still take classes of his, but know where to look for him.

Yama****a has the reputation of being very good but very hard, right?

Oh wow, I just checked my.pomona.edu and yeah you're right, he is under CMC. Hopefully that is just temporary.

Yes, Yamashi-ta's courses are known to be very difficult, but well worth it if you can handle it.

Hurley moved permanently to CMC, mostly because of frustration at Pomona for not funding the Philosophy department enough. It is kind of sad that Pomona lost the head of their Philosophy department just like that. Of course, you can still take classes with him at CMC though. I had Yamashi-ta last semester and I absolutely loved him. It was a hard class but he is such a good teacher that it makes it all worthwhile.

D also had Yamashi_ta as well last semester, and I sat in on the class during Family Weekend. He engages all the students in the discussion and made the class come alive--at least the one I attended. D felt that he was one of the best profs she's had so far and his was probably her hardest class. He won his fifth Wig Award for excellence in teaching this year. These recipients are determined by juniors and seniors who vote on them. http://www.pomona.edu/events/news/newsitems/051606wigawards.shtml
