I am a junior in high school,I have a 2.95ish GPA[upward trend, would become 3.2ish when I apply to college],2300 SAT[going to take again in May or June],my ecs are pretty mediocre[frisbee,ping-pong,some regional awards, thinking about join robotic team my senior year],4 APs.

Here is my ED list:[5 total]
Brandeis-[First choice,59% acceptance rate]
Columbia Fu Engineering school-[30% acceptance rate]
Penn engineering-__?%
Cornell engineering-[45%(maybe higher) acceptance rate]
Boston University-[52% acceptance rate],In fact,it's higher,should be 62%.

Which one would you recommend?
Thanks in advance.

Hmm…phenomenal SAT, GPA…well that’s a different story. What year is it that is bringing your GPA down? Some schools, UCalifornia and UMich for example, don’t look at freshman year. Perhaps consider a school like that?

I see the GPA as being potentially troublesome if applying to these selective schools, even Early Decision. You could certainly try ED to Cornell or the likes; after all, you don’t have a shot if you don’t apply! Good luck!

jellyya-I like them all.Thank you!
ds143-I have 5 high schools, that makes my GPA this bad,but i am going to get straight As from now on.Thank you!

unfortunately, I don’t think that GPA will make you competitive at columbia penn and cornell even though your SAT is outstanding. the other two you would get into.

I wouldn’t say you would get in the other 2 automatically with that GPA either. I am assuming you are female (judging from the acceptance rates you quoted) and that should help for engineering. The acceptance rates may look high but again the applicant pool stats at those Ivies will be top notch. Hopefully you rounded your list with many more matches and safeties.

If it’s me, I would ED to school that I have “less” chance of getting in. If you think Brandeis is realistic for you, why bother do ED if there’s chance that you will get in even with RD.

For me, I will do ED to increase my chance of getting into that college. If I’m quite sure (or that I have high chance) that I will get in the college, I would def. not doing ED in that college.

However, if financial is your problem, that’s another case.

Based on your SATs, I’m going to guess that you’re a really smart person…I’m curious as to why your GPA is so low? Did you have personal/family issues or did you just slack of way to much? If it is the former, then you should explain it to the colleges.
