Need a school for ED.

I am pretty sure i get brandeis and BU right.

^Are you talking about regular acceptance rate?

*It depends on which college, for UNC,i don’t need FA and i am finishing it in 3 years, but schools like ivies,i need to apply for financial aid. *

Since you’re saying that for the $55k per year schools, you’ll need FA, you need to find out what your EFC is and whether your parents can pay it.

It won’t do you much good if your EFC is $35k per year, and your parents can only pay $20k.

And, does Brandeis and BU meet need without big loans? IF not, your FA package could have big loans in it.

you could end up with a gap in your FA package and an unaffordable EFC. Then what would you do?

Is UNC your financial safety school?

I think financial safety schools should be in the 15k-23k range for me,like Alabama,Arizona,Umass, etc, etc

Don’t ED anywhere unless you are 100% sure that is where you most want to go. I read somewhere that most transfer students (transfering OUT of a certain college) were the ED students. They never found out if they “could have” gotten admitted somewhere else, so the regrets take over.

thank you!

I think financial safety schools should be in the 15k-23k range for me,like Alabama,Arizona,Umass, etc, etc

Those schools cost more than that because you’re OOS. However, some would give you big scholarships if you have the stats, and the scholarships would bring them down to that range.

What are your stats?

GPA-2.95ish(would become 3.2ish my senior year)
SAT-2300,going to take again in May or June to boost my cr.

I am also taking SAT2 Physics in October,expecting 750+.

Is that your **weighted **GPA for all classes including PE and electives?

What do you think your weighted cum GPA will be at the end of your junior year (including ALL classes).

If so, then instead of focusing on improving your CR score, you need to get all A’s this year.

Your GPA (if that’s what it is) will prevent you from getting the scholarships at financial safety schools to make them affordable, and may prevent you from getting accepted to your top choices.

Thank you, that is my UW gpa,W gpa should be higher i don’t know exactly the number, but, we’ll see…thanks again:]

please do not ED a school because you want to have a higher chance to getting into that school…

for example, I EDed Cornell because I actually like that school. ED a school if you ABSOLUTELY want to attend that school

Good to hear that that is your unweighted GPA.

Does your school put weighted GPA on your transcript?

Are you taking AP classes this year? Did you take any last year?

Are you a US citizen? It doesn’t seem so from some of your responses. That would change any recommendations.

Erin’s Dad…I missed that. What gives you the impression that he’s not an American citizen or green card resident?

Michiganfall…

You live in MA. Are you a citizen or green card resident?

Your quote: *It depends on which college. For UNC, I don’t need FA and i am finishing it in 3 years, but schools like ivies, I need to apply for financial aid.

I think financial safety schools should be in the 15k-23k range for me,like Alabama,Arizona,Umass, etc, etc
*

Forgive me for misunderstanding…but I don’t know why you say that you don’t need FA for UNC-CH since you’re OOS for UNC-CH and it has a cost of attendance of $35k per year.

I can see why UMass is your safety if you’re in-state for that.

Please explain.

And, what do you think your **cumulative ****weighted **GPA will be at the end of junior year?

What APs are you taking this year (and previous years)?

Does your school put a weighted GPA on a transcript.

waitashu-Thank you!
mom2collegekids-I have ap government and ap calculus.
Erin’s Dad-I think I said I wasn’t a US citizen,maybe not in this thread.
mom2collegekids-I am not a US citizen,I am now international but next year or next n years but position is going to be changed.

Ivies need 50k/year,UNC needs 35k/year,that’s a huge difference if you multiply them by 3.

It’s hard to explain,i am not studying in a single high school,some do,some don’t.

Just so you know, if you are not at least a permanent residence (green card), you will not get in-state tuition for UMass either even if you have lived in MA for many years.

If you are thinking of electrical engineering, you should go to an accredited school for that major.

From what you have posted, I think it is premature to think about selecting an ED school, and instead need to concentrate on making a list of reach, match, safety schools that fit your criteria, e.g. have the majors you want.

Given your grades, I think Columbia, Cornell, and Penn would be super-reaches for you. And Brandeis doesn’t offer engineering.

Schools that come to mind: BU, Northeastern U, UMass, RPI, WPI, RIT, SUNY Buffalo (low OOS tuition, good engineering school), Purdue (well-known for engineering).

If you post on the Parents Forum asking for schools to consider, you will probably get a lot of helpful suggestions.
