I'm looking to transfer, I went to Clemson my freshman year and came out with a 3.0 GPA, in high school i was in the top 10%, 27 on ACT

I live in upstate NY so the point of transferring is to be closer to home (driving distance within 8 hours)

Being small and selective is a big part of what makes Vassar Vassar and Colgate Colgate. So what other distinctive qualities do you think these 2 schools share that you want? SUNY Geneseo is a LAC, larger than Vassar and Colgate, and less selective.

good academics, artsy, intellectual, beautiful campus.

I don’t necessarily want a large school, but with at least 5,000 would be nice.

Also i’m looking to major in something related to biology and psychology. Either double major unless something like biopsychology or cognitive science is offered. Still somewhat undecided but it would be a definite plus if either of those were offered. (This is not the criteria i’m most concerned with though because bio and psych are offered at every school anyway)

Franklin and Marshall
Bucknell
Lehigh

But I don’t think a 3.0 from Clemson is going to get you into any of these places.

Geneseo and New Paltz are good choices in NY.

Go back to Clemson and put your mind to work and stop partying and hanging out with people who arent helping you academically. Clemson is a great school. But you have to be focused to avoid the party types and the sports nuts.

Besides, its too late to transfer now.

^ghostbuster, from her other thread (with more detail):

I just finished my freshman year at Clemson University. I was a Biological Sciences major there but but I am more interested in something like psychology or neuroscience and minoring in cognitive science or philosophy. Possibly following a medically related field, but I don’t really have a passion for it… it’s just practical and has prestige.

I like the idea of Hofstra because it’s close to the city, more liberal arts like, diversity of people, and closer to home (I’m from Buffalo NY, so it’s still far but closer than Clemson)

Or I could go back to Clemson where I already have friends and know how the school works

The thing is, i’m not gung-ho about either, I like both but neither are exactly what I need. I have to choose somewhere to go in the fall and not many school have a rolling basis for transfer admission and i’m running out of time.

But I could always transfer again, but I feel like transferring after sophmore year wouldn’t let me make many close connections…

Bucknell, Holy Cross.

ghostbuster - haha i know Clemson is a great school, i’m not transferring because I don’t like it but because I want to be closer to home and it doesn’t really have the major i’m looking for.

I’d recommend SUNY New Paltz…it’s artsy with good academics and in a great location.

I don’t think any of the private schools suggested (Bucknell, Lehigh, Holy Cross. F&M) is sufficiently less-selective for OP’s stats. New Paltz is a possibility since you’re in-state (but not Geneseo) and maybe Iona, if you’re ok with a Catholic school - - there’s another Catholic school near Albany I’ve seen mentions in a number of threads, Siena?

How about St. Lawrence? Ithaca? Syracuse? Skidmore may be a reach. Two colleges I’ve heard of but know little about are: Hartwick College and Hobart and William Smith.

Are you looking for financial aid? It could be an issue for a transfer student.
