hey guys, I am targeting to hit a score of 700+ on verbal section. I would like to hear the advice of people who were able to do that.
Please tell me:
Books to prepare from for reading/verbal
How exactly to review mistakes. I am kind of confused about this one. Cant really afford a tutor or online prep.
From someone getting 740-770 on the first five official practice tests:
Do the official practice tests, but spread them Find them on the College Board’s website or Khan Academy.
I’ve heard that the Blue Book is a great resource.
Khan Academy online prep is free, but its quality is debatable. I really only use it for the timed practice tests.
The official tests on Khan even provide reasoning for the correct answers (although some posters have questioned their validity), This should help you review!
I’m taking the SAT this Saturday, so I’ll let you know how it works out for me. 0.o
I agree Khan academy has weak coverage of concepts they explain the material far too slow, as oppose to providing with the right tricks and tips to allow you to finish on time and score high.It is great to build the basic skills needed to understand the test but after that you have to correct the mistakes you make on practice tests this way you can figure out strategies that work for you
I got a 730. For verbal, it is all about paying attention to the passage. Reading: For science, know what the thesis is and the experiments are. For history, know what the author is trying to tell and what he is trying to do. For literature, know the setting, the description of the characters and their feelings, and how they interact with one another. For social science, know thesis and experiments. Writing: plug in answer choices and find out which one sounds right.
@OMPursuit Same, hoping for the best. I have been focusing my studying more on the math section, but I think if I take the test again I will change my focus on raising my critical reading score (my weaker section). Good luck to all the test takers!
Having taken the test, I A) wish I’d spent more time studying for the reading section, B) feel somewhat confident about my score, and C) stick by @plopsun and I’s advice.
Take a sneak peak at the question after the one you are working on. If the question asks, “Which line provides the evidence for the answer in question above?,” solve both questions simultaneously.
