Need Advice about UC Transfer

Hello, I’m currently in my first year at UC Merced.

I am not liking it too much, there are several factors contributing to my desire to find an alternate route for me. The first is the location, I’m from San Diego, so it’s pretty far. Secondly, the campus is just too small. The facilities are new and sustainable, but far too little are around. Third, UCM doesn’t have a graduate program for Media/Visual Studies.

I was wondering if I could get some advice. My options are:

  1. Finish up freshman year (probably looking at 3.5GPA), and then move home and attend a CCC, then do TAG program for UC Irvine or Riverside
  2. Apply to UCI & UCR as a junior transfer. I read that this was a difficult change to make, since community students get priority (95%)

**Either way, I’m going to leave UCM, what do you think is the best choice?

I would encourage you to go the CC route, then TAG to your school of choice.
Since you know that you’ll be leaving UCM regardless, do it now so that you can get the significant benefits from the TAG.

Be sure that you make an appointment ASAP with the Transfer counselor at your new CC, as it’s vitally important to make certain the the courses you’ll be taking will fit the transfer requirements. If not, you may end up doing an additional year at the CC.
