I really some your advice. I really wanted to participate in the state's fair this year, but I have to get a top prize at a feeder fair first, right? Well, the application deadline of the feeder fair that I need to go to first is next week. The problem is, I don't have a topic yet (I'd spent all winter studying for the Jan 22 SAT). Should I struggle and get a project idea really fast, or should I skip this year's fair altogether and wait for next year?? I don't know if I can do a good project if I just rush to get a topic by next week, but all of last year, I had planned and really wanted to go to the state fair (and thus feeder fair also). What would you do if you were in my position and why? (I would be willing to stay up late....)

Wait until next year, a week is too short to compile a good science project IMO.

I agree, there's no way you can do a good job starting NOW... you need time to research, design your experiment, get data, analyze your data... I mean, if your heart's set on it, why not try, just don't expect to fare well against those who have been working hard for months on their projects. (hehe fare... hehe)

yeah, unless you already have some base, I think it'd be a little difficult. But I suppose it could really depend on how far away the fair is.
If you don't like sleeping and you have month or so you might be able to pull off a #1! Good Luck if you choose that route, you may very well need it =P

(btw, my decsion to respond to this in no way indicates that I am a "science nerd")

that's ok...you can still offer very good advice and not want to be a science nerd. Thanks...

Chemistry!!
