Need Advice

Hello,

Next year will be my first year at high school, and I will be in pre-IB. My overall dream is to do something in business, whether it be accounting or otherwise, however I think I would like to work somewhere in Asia.

I'm already set to be taking Japanese, however I'm wondering if it would be a better idea to instead take Chinese.

What is a good undergrad for business? I'm somewhat planning on taking an engineering course, however would Economics be a better alternative?

Thank you all.

Hello. I am Chinese and have been to China several times and I do not suggest you to take Japanese. China is the center of all economic affairs right now and it’s important for you to know the Chinese language. Nearly all the major corporations and businesses in the world are flocking to China to set a stake for themselves and if you know Chinese, this would benefit you in the long run since you are looking to do business. Japan is, right now, obsolete in terms of their economy and actually has been for the past few decades or so.

Economics is fine. Do not take Engineering. You should take Math, Psychology, or Philosophy if you do not take Economics.

I was thinking Chinese instead of Japanese. Perhaps French also, if I choose to do work in Switzerland.

As for the second part, what is the main deterrence for Engineering?

China sends huge numbers of students to the USA, most of whom have minimal interest in ever going back permanently. I don’t think there’s really that much advantage to trying to learn Chinese when there’s so many Chinese people already here…

I’d pick the culture you are more interested in. Besides, China has a looming demographic problem so don’t just extrapolate their current success into the future without any consideration for sustainability. In the 80’s everyone assumed that Japan would be running the world and that’s why they’re running the world of the future in “Blade Runner” and “Aliens”.

My options are French, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese.

Is French any good? I know it’s spoken in Switzerland, which is good for banking.

Anyone?

Is French good?

^Not, unless you want to work in France or other part which uses this language. Your better bet would be Chinese or Russian language, for any of these languages are widely used, and belong to the major countries in the world. (supper power countries)
