My goal is at least a 2000 on the SAT. I am taking it this upcoming june and then again at the beginning of the next school year. I took the test in March and scored a 1690 (I know, not so well), but left a TON blank because it was my first one and wasn't really worried about it. When i take the practice tests out of the blue book (one every weekend) I score around a 1700. What books, SAT prep classes, online courses, etc. will help me raise my score to at least a 2000? Please give me advice! Your scores and methods would be useful, as well!

It seems unlikely that you will increase your score by 300 points in 2 weeks, but it is possible and theres no harm in trying.

First, we need more information. Such as what your individual scores were (CR, M, W). Also, any specific areas within the test that you have problems with (i.e. the essay part of the writing section or long passages in critical reading).

How many practice test have your done before your first test? If you did not spend much time to prepare for it and got 1690, it is very feasible to get ~2000 after the summer but probably not in June. You will need to work hard over the summer to do as many practice test as you can, note which area you weakness is in, go through the answers and explanations. If you do at least one timed practice test per week like that in the summer, you should be able to reach that target.

jadenio - the test is in june, not two weeks. I am very week in critical reading (my score was a 470) and in writing i got a 590 and in math a 630. I got a 7 on my essay
I really want to be accepted to UC santa barbara so I’m trying to get the best SAT score i can to make up for my 3.8 high school GPA so far

billcsho - I didn’t prepare AT ALL for the first SAT. I just wanted to get a feel of what the test was like. And i didn’t really care about answering all the questions and such. However, I am still only scoring around a 1700 on the practice tests (I’ve taken 3 so far).

Thank you guys for your replies! What do you suggest would be the best way to prepare and receive a much higher score on my next SAT’s?!

Oh sorry, my bad. Well in that case you should definitely be able to increase your score.

First off, you’re going to want to hone your English skills. Begin working on any areas that you think you need to (i.e. spelling or grammar). You used “week” instead of “weak” above, which is a really minor mistake but minor mistakes can compound and end up losing you points.

As for CR, search “How To Attack The Critical Reading Section Effectively” on Google (I don’t think I can post a link). This guide is GOLD. Learn the method (marking line references), and practice practice practice it. You should be doing awesome in no time! Also, if you’re doing bad in sentence completions, study vocab (Direct Hits).

Writing can be improved by practice and knowing grammer. Search “the seven deadly sins of grammar” in google and read as many of the articles as you can (I think Sparknotes has the main one).

You’re pretty good in math, so I would say focus on the other two for now. However you can buy Gruber’s Math Workbook or Dr. Chungs and use those to learn strategies and touch up on older math topics.

Good luck!

I personally was able to quickly raise my SAT score in a few weeks by going through and doing all of the practice tests in the official SAT book. I went from a ~1650 to a 2020 in about 2 weeks by doing that.

First of all, it is a very bad idea in taking your first SAT without practice. You should never use a real exam to test the water temperature. You can find out your current standing through practice test just as you did (you got 1700 in practice). It is definitely a waste of time, money, and your opportunity. Nevertheless, you do have a lot of room for improvement and you should be able to get a much higher SAT score after more preparation. You just lose one chance.
