Like many already, I got the financial aid package from UT today. Most of it was loans (14K) and some of it was grants such as the pell and the Texas Grant since I am a resident. However, I was wondering if this was all since for other schools I applied to, I got a specific one for need. In other words, will UT steadily be sending out other notifications specifically for need based scholarships? Also when would Texas Exes chapter scholarships notifications be going out?
My daughter’s fin aid pkg was nothing but loans. I did read that Texas Exes would go out in April and May. That’s all I know, sorry.
@Mandyyy My daughter received her package today as well and it sounds like she got exactly what you received, praying for some other type of grants or scholarships, hopefully Texas Exes will start notifying students soon!!!
@amottmers Hopefully. It is unfortunate though that the Top Ten Scholarship is not available for the 2016-2017 school year. I’m assuming that you’re residents as well considering that you said you got about the same as I did.
@Mandyyy Yes we are Texas residents.
@Mandyyy I’m wondering the same thing…not a single scholarship included…all grants and loans.
@JustJeanie Well I guess the only thing to hope for now would be the Texas Exes. But I’m already considering my options in terms of loans.
@Mandyyy Wait, there’s no top ten scholarship this year? What about the valedictorian scholarship? Welp, I guess it’s time to sell my soul to the loan sharks…or maybe a kidney, whatever’s worth more…(just kidding) But in actuality, loans here I come!!!
@PeachyKhaleesi - the Highest Ranking Graduate is not the same as UT awarded financial aid.
It is a state program through TEA:

@bookmom7 Thanks for the info
I just looked up the Top Ten Percent Scholarship on the College For Texans website and was disappointed when they said funding wasn’t available
Anyone receive any scholarship notifications yet?? Still crossing fingers that award notifications for scholarships go out at a later date… To quote John Lennon…you may say I’m a dreamer…
Scholarships notifications usually come BEFORE regular financial aid.
Whatever scholarships are going to be given now will come from students who chose another university over UT Austin and rejected their scholarships.
Ahhh ok wasn’t sure since I recently read on the Texas Exes scholarship page that awards go out end of April and continues through May.
@JustJanie I heard that as well about the Texas Exes ones. But money is money and if we are fortunate to get any, I wouldn’t really care if it came from people who declined admission or from Texas Exes.
@Mandyyy
Last year the university disbursed several $5k/year Presidential Achievement Scholarships for high stats, low-income students. These offers came in the admissions letter and the online admissions portal.
What does your financial aid offer look like? The UT cost of attendance is ~27k, so 14k in loans suggests a relatively good financial aid package. You can probably swing it with less debt by moving off-campus after freshman year and living frugally. I don’t know if you’d like to do that, but it’s possible.
@Fredjan I am considering moving off campus but my parents might not like it. They are adamant that staying on campus would worry them less and be a bit more secure
@Fredjan
Presidential Achievement Scholarship is the same as Presidential scholars. In addition to need you have to have very high stats and some extraordinary accomplishments to receive it.
