Ahh, good point, I wrongly assumed your daughter was MT. Okay, Temple sounds promising.
@speezagmom
Another year would not be good or even covered with Financial Aid, thank you for pointing that out.

Yes, auditions are limited everywhere because the auditors have limited time they can be out of the classroom teaching. They are running an MT program at the same time, so they have only so much time. Some schools break it up among faculty, but I know the BW Director sat in personally on every audition last year.
As far as re-audition, talk to the person who handles the conservatory auditions. She is super helpful. Iām pretty sure her name is listed on website.
Also, @kategrizz had a daughter who attended BW and Iām sure she could answer some questions for you.
@21stParent - just to be clearā¦ My D did apply to MT programs but her skills were acting-singing-dancing in that order so I consider her an āacting firstā as opposed to āmusic firstā applicant. She applied to a half-dozen BA programs as well as 9 BFA programs - both American and Temple were on her list as āacademic (BA) admits for admission with future chance of an MT transferā. We planned her college list months in advance of applying and she didnāt want a gap year so we had a careful strategy for college options if the BFA MT applications didnāt work out. It is normal advice on CC for all applicants to audition programs that they have some non-audition options. Some students donāt want that - itās BFA/BM or nothing - but then they need to be okay with a gap year if the auditions donāt work out or plan to audition for programs with a high acceptance rate. Any path is fine just ābe preparedā ā¦ like the Boy Scouts.
Sorry guys, I had responded to these comments, yesterday but it didnāt seem to take:
@loribelle
Thank you for that insight, realizing faculty has to take time away from an ongoing MT program to run auditions makes the limited auditions more understandable. Very nice that the director shows up! Although, 2 days ago I emailed the admissions office at Baldwin Wallace re: the clarification about the different dates for the main college and the music school (before I knew about the auditions being all filled up) and I still have not heard back from them. I do wonder if they get so much interest and applications that they arenāt motivated to be attentive to inquiries.
@CaMom13
I understand now! Thanks for clearing that up and for the great Temple suggestion for my son.
@21stParent Youāll want to talk with Corrie Anne Riberdy. She is the admissions person for the conservatory and is very nice and was responsive to questions last year. Iāll PM you a link to her contact information.
@speezagmom
thank you!
My S just graduated from BW. The answer at BW is yes - you could re-audition after you are in the school but I would not rely on that as a strategy. However, non-MT students are eligible to be cast in shows.
@artskids - how many non MTs were cast in shows during your sonās 4 years there?
@toowonderful I have started following BW on their social media. They post the cast of each show and so far plenty of non MT and non BFA Acting kids have gotten roles or ensemble spots.
In my Sās time, at LEAST one VP and one or two non-MT in every show weāve seen (including shows weāve seen since he graduated). I cannot speak to shows performed in conjunction with the school but not on campus.
@AZperformom and @artskids - itās great that kids outside the MT major at BW get castā¦ but I wonder how many get cast more than one time. Getting to be in one show is hardly the equivalent of a majorā¦
BTW- I would give this same advice with regards to ANY school that touts the idea that they have open casting - the question is, how often? Any student from outside the major āmayā be cast, but what does that mean?
I never said it is the equivalent of an MT major - it is not. Nor did I say they tout open casting (although some VP majors DO manage to get cast almost every semester and will sometimes showcase with the MTs). Neither of my girlsā schools permit non-BFA casting so it seems to be a bit unusual.
@artskids, @toowonderful & @AZperformom
Been so busy, havenāt checked my thread! Thanks guys for the input, I appreciate it.
Weāve reluctantly given up on Baldwin Wallace. Someone from the admissions office answered my email so I never interacted with Corrie Anne Riberdy. The admissions rep was very matter of fact and none too friendly and told us each waiting list had a minimum of 15 people on it!
We still have some great options for schools, all week my son has been working on prescreens, applications, etc. and weāve gotten some awesome recommendation letters which might just be the best part of this processā¦I feel like getting t-shirts made, lol!
Definitely check out Arizona State. My daughter is very happy there. So many opportunities even for freshman. Tons of piano, music theory, site singing, etc. We are from California and with all of the scholarship money including for theatre it made the school cheaper than SDSU!
Thank you @hmichmom
Yes, we are interested in Arizona State and I added your information to our notes!
