Volunteering (not required): I’ll have nearly 400 hours when I graduate
I plan on doing EA at WPI, ED or RD at RPI, Colorado School of Mines, ED or RD Boston University (yes, the Northeast is my favorite part of the country), and one Ivy School (just to)
I may apply to Wake Forest, UMass Amherst
I need to expand my college search-I’ve talked to the admissions multiple times for these schools, but still nervous about how much of a match I am. Any feedback would be awesome.
If I were you, I’d look at Lehigh and Rochester Inst. of Tech. And maybe Virginia Tech for a safety school? You need at least one or two good safety options.
I am not trying to talk you out of applying to any of the schools you’ve mentioned. However, I want to say that on the whole there will be higher expectations of those entering engineering than the school in general. I do not believe Virginia Tech is a safety. Others can give you advice on schools to consider in the NE. I have a number of schools you could consider in the midwest. I am sure others will ask. What can you afford?
Agree with @lvvcsf VT is not a safety with 28 ACT and GPA - thats <the 25% for engineering there. Might want to do more research on your possible matches. Dig into college website and try to find admissions standards for JUST engineering as those stats are usually quite a bit higher than university as a whole.
I can suggest a couple of Ohio schools that would fit well with your current GPA and test scores. The University of Cincinnati and the University of Dayton. The first would be an OOS public with a very good engineering program and a mandatory co op. The second is a private that has ties to Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
You’re taking a couple of courses your senior year that are considered college level courses. They’ll give you some insight into how prepared you are for an engineering curriculum.
WVU, U Delaware, George Mason, UMBC, Ohio U. Toledo should be solid safety.
What are the chances of getting your ACT up? That would help your chances a lot.
AP Calc and Physics 1st semester grades will likely play a role in how you fare.
But for the sake of discussion, how about Michigan Tech, Minnesota Duluth, Lake State. These should run between 25k-45k/year and the engineering rages from “ABET, full employment” to really rather good.
If the “east” part of northeast is really important, then maybe Clarkson or Alfred, but none of these are a given and 50-70k / year is the likely cost.
28 ACT is going to exclude you from competitive engineering programs. What do your subscores look like? Do you have AP results? I don’t think your list is at all practical. Look at your instate schools where your ACT/GPA puts you in the in tray. in the eng dept. You have zero budgetary requirements? As for n/a rank, you should be able to have a decile at least from your GC.
