Need full ride

U of Tulsa, Illinois Institute of Technology, Case Western Reserve U, Ohio University, Northeastern U, U of South Carolina, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, U of Maryland-Baltimore County.

I already have a good list of engineering schools where i will get at or near a full ride, but i'm looking to add just a couple more. Which of these would give me a full ride or close to one(financial and merit aid)?
EFC: Definite 0(family:single mom, 6 kids, income of less than 60k,including dad)
3.9 GPA uw, all honors or AP, 9 AP's, Average EC's
Thanks!

Apply to Franklin W Olin College.

What is your SAT/ACT score?

It seems that you have financial NEED, and those schools on your list don’t promise to meet need. You should do research on schools that promise to meet need.

Go to the pinned threads at the top of this forum and look through the Full Tuition thread.

Ok, thanks to both of you.

Right, if you have financial need, some schools can be quite generous. Usually hard to get in to, but full-ride merit scholarships aren’t usually easy either.

i know, i was just wondering about how financial accessible these were, as i am trying to add or replace a few safeties and matches(though i already have a nice list). Merit AND Financial aid are what i’m asking about, not just full-ride merit scholarships. My financial need is huge, so i need input on the total cost when combining both types of aid from these schools. Thanks!

Bump(if literally none are good to add on to my list due to inadequate aid, please just say they are) Thanks :smiley:

@redrising8: can you answer @international95 's question on what are your SAT/ACT scores? Maybe then you’d have more responses.

Yeah, sorry! :smiley:
ACT:34
SAT:1510(2390 total)

@redrising8: Wow - nice stats!

Have you looked at the pinned threads for merit scholarships?

Are you an (under represented) minority? (If so, consider Gates Millenium).

Have you thought about Questbridge?

I am mixed(white mom, black dad). And i am going to use Questbridge, but i’ll look into Gates Millennium.
Thanks!

Bump

Important to note that Gates Millenium also provides graduate school funding for certain areas of study, including engineering:

THE GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS PROGRAM

The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program selects 1,000 talented students each year to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice. The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program announces the entire list of students selected for the GMS Class of 2014 in a press release.
Our program is more than a scholarship—it’s an opportunity to change your life! Just ask Deonte Bridges how much the GMS scholarship means to him.

If you are willing to serve as a nominator or recommender for deserving students, you can make a difference in their lives.

The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential by:

Reducing financial barriers for African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American and Hispanic American students with high academic and leadership promise who have significant financial need;
Increasing the representation of these target groups in the disciplines of computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health and the sciences, where these groups are severely underrepresented;
Developing a diversified cadre of future leaders for America by facilitating successful completion of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees; and
Providing seamless support from undergraduate through doctoral programs, for students selected as Gates Millennium Scholars entering target disciplines.
The Gates Millennium Scholars Program, established in 1999, was initially funded by a $1 billion grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The GMS Scholarship Award Provides:

Support for the cost of education by covering unmet need and self-help aid;
Renewable awards for Gates Millennium Scholars maintaining satisfactory academic progress;
Graduate school funding for continuing Gates Millennium Scholars in the areas of computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science;
Leadership development programs with distinctive personal, academic and professional growth opportunities.

Thanks Madison85!

Note that many colleges that give merit aid then knock off some of the need based aid so your cost of attendanc is still the same… you need to determine if each college on your list does this. Sometimes the website says, but sometimes you have to ask the financial aid office at the college. So don’t just assume that you will get the need-based aid the net price calculator on the financial aid page shows, and can also assume any merit aid you get will reduce your cost of attendance.

I don’t think your list is realistic to expect full rides from all of those listed in your post. For the need portion, I don’t think any guarantee to meet need. For merit, You don’t even know if they give them for the OOS publics. I’m not sure those privates give full rides at all and if so it will be just a few. Case gives a lot of merit, but it still can leave a very large bill to pay. :ole what if the cost is 55k and your family contribution is 10k and you get 25k scholarship. Where will you get the 10k family contribution plus the other 20k a year? Did you do your own try of the Net Price Calculators? Some will show estimated merit but most won’t. But at least you will see the family and student portion you’d be expected to pay.

I’d say you want to get familiar with that automatic full ride/full tuition list, last post. Look at the competitive merit thread too.

What state are you in?

You will likely be invited to IIT’s interview weekend with your GPA and test scores. The full tuition scholarships are hard to get but worth a try.

Definitely look through the no-loans schools:

http://urbanintellectuals.com/2013/09/25/72-no-loans-free-schools-for-low-income-students-part-21/</a></p>

You have a good shot at some of these schools (especially as URM). The good part about no-loans fin aid is that even if there’s a gap left, you can get direct loans and work to cover the gap up to COA.

Some will give you as good or better opportunities compared to the schools on your original list as well.

3.9 unweighted HS GPA, 34 ACT, and 1510 SAT CR+M will get you automatic full rides from Tuskegee, Howard (first come first served), Louisiana Tech, Temple, and Prairie View A&M, according to http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com/</a> .

There are also competitive full rides at various schools listed at <a href=“Competitive Full Tuition / Full Ride Scholarships - #50 by BobWallace - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums”>Competitive Full Tuition / Full Ride Scholarships - #50 by BobWallace - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums; .

If you have National Merit status, take a look at this list here: http://nmfscholarships.yolasite.com/</a></p>

In addition, the above lists also have full tuition scholarships. These might be affordable if your parents contribute a few thousand dollars, you take a federal direct loan, and you contribute some work earnings.

For need-based financial aid, use the net price calculator at each school’s web site.

State of residency? Some states may have good financial aid or merit scholarships available only to in-state residents.
