Need Guidance From Mathguys/gals

because the IIC looks better and it's actually an easier test

an 800 on the IIC is a 90th percentile, while 800 on the IC is a 99th percentile

the IIC has a way better curve

My math says I'd rather be in the 99th percentile (IC) than in the 90th, if what you say is correct.

colleges will see 800 and not worry about the percentiles, if they did really care, then nobody would take the SAT II Chinese test, because an 800 is like a 55th percentile or something

IIC tests pre-calc material, and makes you look more advanced than IC, which is basically algebra

At an info session last week the MIT rep said that she does not care which Math you take as long as you do well. When a parent said ,"I can't have heard you right," She said, I will say this one more time... We know the percentiles and we'd rather see you in a higher percentile regardless of the test. Sorry, just repeatingwhat she said...not that I want to go to MIT.

Funny you mention Chinese. Our guidance couselor last week told all the Asian students that they'd been hearing it's 'not cool' anymore to take a test for your native language. Colleges look at it, figure it out easily, and frown on taking the easy way out.

Hey rapguy,
I've found the Math Ic in the Real is fairly representative of the actual test. But still take that result with a small grain of salt...the sample test might, by chance, have been targeted at your particular skills.

The Ic versus the IIc really depends on where you're applying and what programs you're applying to. Some schools and programs require or highly recommend the IIc (Stanford, for example, strongly recommends the IIc.)

If you're going into a math or science major, most schools prefer the IIc. Frankly, I'm surprised to hear what the MIT rep said, but hey, you got it from the horse's mouth, so you've got to believe it.

So, where are you thinking of applying, and for what programs?
