Need help, Alabama or Auburn?

mom2collegekids, how do you compared UAB to Bama? Which is better for undergrad especially for business? Which one will give a better undergrad experience and open doors after graduation?

Comparing UAB and Bama, in my opinion UAB has chosen to concentrate on its assets in its undergradute Life Sciences Departments, which means that other things, like the Engineering and Business programs, have to fight for internal support and recognition. I don’t think they have the money to go head to head with Bama to try match grants to non-residents, but they are spending money to upgrade facilities and the residential aspects of the campus. They’re looking to further distinguish themselves as an attractive urban university, since downtown Birmingham won’t ever be confused with Tuscaloosa, aesthetically.

Thanks everybody for their helpful posts. I’m thankful for everyone’s input in helping me make this huge decision.

One last question. I know education is a huge part of going to college and the opportunities that it eventually produces, but I’ll never make it through college if I don’t ENJOY it.

So can anyone tell me about the social life there? I’ve heard Bama is dominated by the Greek system, but I want cold hard facts, perhaps by someone who has attended the school. The same for Auburn. I keep hearing “Auburn is a small town with everything from a large research university.” Everyone seems to think Bama is “big city” while Auburn is “small town.” Personally, I am from a small town, but I have no preference.

I’d just like to know some of the things I can get involved in. Maybe engineering clubs, or something involving technology or something to that nature? I don’t do varsity sports, but intermural sports are something I plan on participating in. Of course, marching band is probably something I’ll do, so I know about that. I’d just like to know how I’m going to fit in and make the most out of my college experience.

And maybe it’s a long shot, but if anyone’s heard of a game of Humans vs Zombies on either campus, I’d like to know about that. It sounds interesting…
