I'm on academic probation at my college. I made a few mistakes, but who doesn't? At my college, if your on AP, you can only take 2 classes. But they do have an appeal hearing where you can exceed the classes you wanna take.
Before I knew I was on AP, I registered for 3 classes: Educational Psychology, Intro to Womens Studies, and Human Growth and Development. I was gonna appeal to keep my schedule because if you appeal and it's granted, you must take a college success seminar.
I met with a women that specializes in learning disability at the college(I've had a learning disability since elem. school) and she recommended that I switch my womens studies class to the math class that I failed in the fall semester. I thought that would be a good idea.
The hearing consisted of 2 women: one women that basically ran the show, and another that was like a helper. I wanted the main women, but ended up with the helper.
The first thing she did before I could explain myself as to why I did so bad in the fall and what I was gonna do differently in the spring, she started telling me that the edu. psych class and the human growth and dev. class were too hard, and that I should take the math course, intro to psych, a reading/study skills class, and the success seminar.
1. I already took intro to psych and passed it! I got a D, but a D in community college is passing, and you only need a C or higher if thats your major, and it's not my major!
2. Why would I need to take a reading/study skills class if I'm taking the success seminar?!
And to make things worse, she said that she doesn't want to make my spring semester miserable!
I told the woman that I need to talk about it with my parents first, and both of my parents think it's ridiculous.
I'm confused because in the letter, it only said that students granted appeals must take the success seminar, and it did not say that we had to change our whole course schedule. I'm planning on going back there tomorrow and talking to the other women.
But what is your take on this? What would you do? Do you think the women is right?
