Need help balancing senior son's list of schools re: sci/math & financial aid

<p>We’re from California and my son was ELC and accepted to UCLA, UCSD, and UCSB for engineering. He was seriously considering UCSD and was offered a Regents scholarship there. One of the greatest advantages to this was guaranteed housing all 4 years (I think I’m remembering this correctly) and priority enrollment which would have helped with getting classes timely.</p>

<p>He ultimately decided to head across the country to Lafayette (where he got a nice merit scholarship) because he liked the small liberal arts environment. He was totally turned off by our tour of Cal Tech - not enough variety of students</p>

<p>Funny, that’s what my son loved about Caltech. Fortunately they didn’t love him back, and he’s now at a non-tech national research U, which I realize in retrospect is likely going to provide him with a much more well-rounded diverse experience than he would have received at Tech U.</p>
