Need help choosing a major!

Hey guys, I need some help in choosing a major. I want to work on helping the environment and do stuff like managing resources, make stuff more fuel efficient and other stuff like that. So should i major in biology or environmental science or something like that?

Do you want to go into the biological aspect of the environment or mor of the natural side of it? (By natural I mean the Earth itself, like the ocean, resources, stuff like that). If you’re more into the biological aspect of it,a Bio major might be better. Just make sure to pick all the ecology courses over the human body courses. If you’re more interested in the natural side of things, go with Geology over Environmental Science. Environmental Science is usually focused on the policy side of things and we all know how touchy a subject politics are these days.

That sounds like you may want to major in some type of engineering (perhaps mechanical or electrical, civil if you mean energy efficiency of buildings).

Development of Biofuels or even algae based fuels is ChemE correct?

I would think ChemE would be the best path to go for that. However, I personally think that if you want to make a bigger impact for society in the foreseeable future you should major in geology/geophysics while focusing on petroleum or environmental geology. The idea of alternative energy is great, but I see it falling short as long as we still keep finding oil reserves with the advanced geophysical practices we are developing.

Yes, chemical engineering would be applicable to fuel development. Actually, most areas of engineering have some application to energy production, use, and efficiency.

thanks for the posts everyone they helped alot! I know ChemE is a very good major even though the couses are pretty rigorous but ill look into it
