Okay, I honestly have no idea which prompt to choose since all of my ideas are lousy. Can someone suggest which essay sounds the most interesting?

Central Story: I'm Pakistani?

Failure: I got in a wreck once, but that's an awful essay.

Challenged a Belief: I could talk about rejecting drugs, but that's not very original.

Place: I could talk about my service trip to Tibet, but service trip essays are overdone. I could also talk about being in a research lab.

Becoming an Adult: This would entail a death of a family member, but that's cliche.

Yea, I've got nothing good...

Lots of students think they haven’t got anything original - but talk to the people. Talk to your friends about the prompts. Have someone talk to you about what they feel your ‘story’ might be - second/third opinions have always helped in our experience - I’m sure it’ll work for you too!

This one could be good.

I think you need to think about smaller events, though - things you could describe with detail and imagery. Think about how you would answer these questions if you weren’t trying to impress anyone. The answer doesn’t have to completely fit the prompt, at least not at first.

Smaller events like I knocked a kids ice cream cone out of his hand and it made him sad?

It doesn’t matter the topic…it is how you write. That said, Tibet sounds interesting.

I think you could write a great essay as long as you don’t write…’…I realized that even though they were poor, we are all the same…’…:)

That cliche is so cliche, it’s cliche Also, I’d talk more about how I like to help people and somehow connect it with math and science as I’m a prospective engineering major.

Sure, if it actually fits one of the prompts and still makes you look like a good person at the end. The idea isn’t to stay away from certain topics, but to write something relevant and worth reading.

Think about times that you’ve helped people.
I don’t think you’d really get any metaphorical bonus points for connecting it to your prospective major, especially if it’s worse than it would have been if you hadn’t tried to do that.

Hmm, okay, I’ll just write something that shows my personality.

(There has to be a story, not just a fluffy “this is my personality!!!111” kind of thing. Not that anyone would do that anyway, but just making sure.)

Yea I know, I’m not a complete goof.
