Need help choosing where to apply-- engineering vs business

Hi everyone, narrowed down my ED choice to either Harvey Mudd or Amherst (recruited athlete). Would like to pursue a career either in tech, finance, or a mixture of both. Would appreciate any responses to my questions:

  1. For those familiar with Amherst, I haven't heard the best things about the CS department. Can I still get tech jobs either on the east coast or preferable in Silicon Valley? Or is it close to impossible?
  2. For those familiar with Mudd, how hard is it to get above a 3.0? My main worry is that my GPA will be too low to be in consideration for any top MBA programs, which I'm hoping to apply to down the road. How's the alumni base on the east coast?

Any advice on picking one over the other? Need to make a decision quick! Thanks.

I know you said either east coast or Silicon Valley, but do you have a preference for one of the other?

Obviously two fantastic schools where students get world-class educations. The college choice is much less important to your success and happiness than what you do when you arrive. If you go to either, work hard, embrace new opportunities, treat others with respect and friendship, you’ll do great. Which place do you like best? They are very different. You will live and work there for four years. I’d say choose where you want to go. Let all the rest come to you. Good luck!
