So I’m near finishing Pre-Calculus in High School. Was not too difficult. As for my next year course, I have to choose on whether taking Calculus 1 in my local college as half a semester(Spring) Or taking an AP year long course next year. I Would really appreciate if somebody would tell me the difficulty of Calculus and If it’s not worth on taking a year long class.
Thank You.
What have your grades been in your math so far?
Calculus, to me at least, was one of those subjects that appears hard before you take it (“you’re taking 12th grade calculus?”), but wasn’t really that bad. Of course, one can throw really difficult analysis-type questions in a calculus curriculum, but the AP Calculus course isn’t really that rigorous.
If your year-long AP course is the equivalent of Calculus AB, you might find the course a bit slow (most colleges cover the same material in a semester or less), although if it is a BC-equivalent course, it might be a good pace, or maybe a bit fast. Some BC courses assume you have taken Calculus AB though.
In Pre-Calculus I’ve been getting in the 91%-94%range from the beginning of the year til now. I am quite hesitant on taking on calculus 1 in my local college as there will be alot of information to learn in a very short period of time (Beginning of May to July 2nd). Should I go for it?
