High match:
UIUC in-state
Indiana
OSU

Match:
Miami (OH)
Iowa
Michigan State

Low match:
Illinois State in-state

Thanks Prezbucky!

Does match mean really good chance of getting in?

Here’s how I figure it:

High reach = 0-5% chance
Reach = 5-15%
Low reach = 15-25%
High match = 25-40%
Match = 40-60%
Low match = 60-99.9%

(Safety is 100%…)

That’s based on your competition for admission at the school as well as the school’s acceptance rate.

State schools are generally more selective for out-of-state candidates.

Are you able to pay for all of these schools OOS?

Thanks again Prezucky!,

and Intparent: I hope I will get some financial aid with the OOS Schools but we’ll see

Thanks for your comment on my chance post.
Get that ACT score up. I mean really hit the books and study up this summer for the Sept test. Raise it up to a 29 or in the 30s and you’ll be at the top 75% for schools like OSU.

Those APs you are taking and/or the ones you have taken, consider taking SAT IIs if you have the time to study. High scores (700+) will do you so much justice in admissions. They might even wipe out your bad AP scores (I saw your other thread).

You have commitment to a few clubs, but obtain at least one leadership position! Step up for elections! With your reputation, you might be voted in!! A leadership position will give you so much more edge for these schools.

Being in state in Illinois will give you additional edge in admissions and might be a determining factor in where you end up going due to the costs.

Illinois - Urbana-Champaign (Match)

Indiana - Bloomington (Match)

Iowa - Iowa City (Match)

Ohio State (Match)

U of Michigan (Reach)

Michigan State (Match)

Miami (Ohio) (Low Match)

Illinois State (Low Match)

Wisconsin - Madison (Low reach)

Get that ACT score up and you’re golden.

Note: If you really want to go to OSU, they offer side campuses in the cities of Newark, etc that allow you to study there maybe 1-2 years and then transfer to main campus Columbus. Tuition will be a lot less and you’ll be taking the same classes they would have offered at main. For Ohio residents, I know that if an applicant gets denied from main campus, they are automatically accepted into an off campus. I might not be 100% on this choice, and I don’t know if it’s a possibility for OOS. Acceptance rate at off campuses are larger though.

Good luck!
Your test score is possibly the only factor holding you back!
STUDY UP!

You need to not just “hope” - - that is not a good tactic in college admissions. You should go run the net price calculator on the website of each school. You will see that you are not likely to get much need based aid at all from most of them. They just don’t give much to students who are not from families who pay state taxes in their state.

You can look to see if merit aid is an option. But again, it is often awarded more heavily to in-state students. The Ohio State University might be an exception, I am aware of OOS students who have gotten pretty good merit aid there.

Sorry I wasnt clear, I calculated, I Will be able to pay OOS. I agree that you need to prepare financially. Merit aid would be nice though.

Thanks

@Kokko2k15 I appreciate the detailed response. YOu dont think my weighted GPA is too low?
