i live in new jersey right now and want to get out of here without going too far. i have a 3.5 GPA and a 1600 SAT (620 verbal 480 math and 500 writing) I'd like to go somewhere that wouldn't be that hard to get into with my grades and has a decent community of people that are chill (I'd rather not end up at a big party school like Rutgers so please don't suggest that) ( i took Ap US history and got a 3 and i'm taking Ap English senior year)

i went to a program at IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) and i really liked it there ( so i guess that means a kinda small pubic place would be nice though i have nothing against a liberal arts college)

i've been thinking about schools in upstate new york or P.A but im not sure, even when you narrow it down to a region there are still lots of schools and its hard to decide where to start looking. even a few general suggestions would help a lot, and if you'd like anymore info on my grades and stuff like that i'd be happy to give it if it'd help

You might look at Hartwick in Oneonta, NY…small private school, interesting programs, students seem to like it alot and it’s not difficult for admissions. They do offer merit aid which is not difficult to get. Another school you might like is Wilkes, in Wilkes-Barre PA which is small but attractive and also may offer you some merit money.

If your budget is smaller, you could look at the SUNY system as tuition for OOS students is still very affordable. Bypass Geneseo, Binghamton, UB, and Stonybrook as your stats are not really within range (and UB/Stony are very large schools). The smaller SUNY’s like Fredonia, New Paltz, Plattsburgh, Brockport, Cortland, and Oswego may fit your needs.

yeah i will be taking the SAT’s one more time, and i really don’t know what i want to major in, all i really know is that whatever i end up majoring in its not going to be in the math or sciences. something like English, history or even social work would be things that i might go for.

and uhhh what are the SUNY schools? (btw thanks for all the suggestions! i really need the help i’m glad that your here lol)

The SUNY’s are the State Universities of New York. Each one has it’s own reputation and standards. I agree that you should look into them. They are very welcoming of OOS students and the costs are very reasonable.
