Chance at SUNY Schools/ Any Recomendations?

Hello everyone, its my first post at this site so here it goes:

I have a 2.8 GPA ( Math Hinders my Grade every year)
SATs- 560 English, 440 Math (Math Again)
Officer of my schools FBLA,
Member of Buisness Honors Society
Member of another acedemic program
Town Travel Soccer (Captain)
Town Basketball
Town Baseball
Student at a local performing arts school (Guitar)

I know that my grades are average, mostly because my 68s in math bring it down alot each year, but I would really like to be accepted to a New York state school. I am going for business and the 5 business classes that I have taken, i have gotten 88-95s in. I know that I will be appling to New Paltz (number one wish, already applied), Oneonta, and Albany. I will also apply to Uconn, Johnson and Wales, and maybe marymount as out of state. Everyone is telling me that it will be difficult, anything I can do to help, or just sit and hope? If anyone has any other suggestions besides community colleges I would appreciate hearing them. And if anyone has any experience about any of these six schools i would like to hear about them. Thanks.

I think you need to add more safety schools to the mix. Have you thought about any of the other SUNY’s? Maybe Plattsburgh, Farmingdale, Cortland? New Paltz is a reach. It is one of the harder SUNY’s to get into lately due to its rise in popularity. Oneonta and Albany may also be low reaches. UConn is a high reach. Definitely look into some other schools so you have more options.

I looked at Farmingdale, but they said that an extremely high number of students just commute and i live an hour and a half away so it would be empty on weekends. Plattsburgh is All the way up north and i was hopeing not to go further than like 2 1/2 hours. It does stink that NP has become harder to get into because that is less than an hour from me, has a laid back atmosphere, and is where many of my friends are. Someone told me that an out of state-er has a decent chance to get into a school due to them having to pay the out of state price, is that true or the opposite (like in the case of Uconn)?

Is there anyone who has been accepted or not who can give me an idea?

I’m also applying to my share of SUNY’s… it looks like New Paltz and Albany are outside of your reach; your SAT’s and GPA are just too weak, but I like your EC’s. Oneonta & Johnson and Wales are good choices.

Also consider:

 • University of Maine-Farmington
 • Suffolk University
 • Babson
 • U Rhode Island
 • U Hartford
 • Rutgers
 • St. John’s (excellent business program)
 • CUNY!

Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the help amr2014. Do u think I would have a chance at Rutgers, i would like to go there but thought it was very similar to UConn’s admissions? I also thought St. Johns was very selective, I know it is very expensive? I would definetly consider the Cuny’s but Housing and atmosphere is a big factor to me. I have heard that queens college, hunter, and city have some sorts of housing but they are very limited and not like a traditianal college atmosphere at all. Do u have any personal experience with them?

Has anyone with grades similar to mine been accepted to any SUNY schools?

Sports4, I would say that St John’s is “very selective” for only a few programs, like pharmacy. If you like the school otherwise, you should apply. But they do have a significant number of commuter/off-campus students.
