They offer merit aid. I called and their minimum reward is $15k.
Their MINIMUM award is $15,000?
Are you sure?
That is what she told me. At least that is what it was this year she said for merit. She said the awards start st 15,000 for oos.
But tuition/room/board is 45k. They try to get you to instate prices if they want you. Instate ~ 30k. Go read the accepted students thread to see what you can expect based on stats and this year’s admits.
Where is that thread?
Weighted
@mom2collegekids …so if he has a 4.1 weighted GPA and gets at least a 1520 on his next SAT he will get a full ride? Will UA do superscore?
I don’t believe UA superscores for their auto merit…but they do use weighted GPA.
@mom2collegekids is that correct? On sitting?
Can you make a link for that post or tell me the post number? Can’t find that claim.
That couldn’t possibly right because UAH does not give a merit for someone merely having a 4.0
Call UAH admissions tomorrow and ask if they use weighted GPA for merit if it’s on the transcript. Some schools will just use the highest GPA that is on the transcript.

There is NO way UConn will be less expensive than UMass. They are similar in quality for engineering, UConn and UMass.
@suzyQ7 UConn OOS next year costs 51k. With 15k off, that means @Skippy00 's net cost is 36k a year. UMass is cheaper instate.
@mom2collegekids He needs both a 1520 AND a 4.0 for a full ride. @Skippy00
Just go to the UAH scholarship chart.
https://www.uah.edu/admissions/undergraduate/financial-aid/scholarships/merit-tuition-scholarships
What about financial aid on top of merit aid at uconn?
@Skippy00 Do you qualify for a Pell Grant? That and the Stafford loan is all that you’d get if you qualify.
@gearmom yes and when I did the generic NPC it gave me this…
Estimated total cost of attendance: $54,300
- Estimated total grant aid:
(Includes need based grant and scholarship aid from Federal, State, or Local Governments, or the Institution)
$22,270
then I deducted the merit scholarship from that which gave me a COA at 13K after I deducted the price of books and “other expenses”.
I really don’t think you deduct a merit scholarship at that point. No way UConn is only 13k. There are no unicorns in NE. What is the exact breakdown of the aid?
@Skippy00 I ran the NPC pretending I was you. You get 23k off in TOTAL grants and scholarships. You don’t then take off MORE money in scholarships to get that super cheap price. So your cost is about 31k per year
Read that again…you can’t deduct the merit award a second time. A merit award from UConn or any other college IS “scholarship aid form the INSTITUTION”. It is already included in your total grant aid above.
If you are Pell eligible, that is ALSO included…it’s a federal grant.
So the only additional aid you would get guaranteed is the $5500 Direct Loan.
So…$37,000 net cost adding back in only the $15,000 merit award.
Not affordable.
In terms of getting more need based aid…I doubt it.
