Need help finding schools

Alright so as the title states, I need a little bit more help finding schools.

GPA: Unweighted: 3.8
Weighted: 4.125
SAT: 1370 (Probably will not submit)
ACT: 33 (Retaking to raise ELA for better superscore)

AP Classes: AP Calculus ABBC, AP Environmental, AP Physics 1, AP Biology, AP Computer Science
AP Exam Scores: AP Biology - 5
AP Computer Science - 5
Have not taken the exams for the rest, expected 4 on AP Physics and 5 on rest

Strong business and engineering Extracurriculars (I can explain if you want) with no job experience and a mediocre amount of volunteering.

Schools I have so far:

U of SC (will apply for honors) - Safety
Clemson (will apply for honors) - Safety

NC State (honors) - Match
UNC Chapel Hill - Match

Georgia Tech - In between reach and match
Northeastern - In between reach and match
Duke University - Reach (have a little legacy but I don’t think it will change anything)

I am looking to either study Engineering or Business (Could major one minor the other or set up a double major)

Any ideas on schools? I can go more in depth into my scores and such if you would like. I’m looking for a couple more reach, one more safety, and a few more match schools.

If my reach/match/safety schools are all wrong, please let me know. I’m not too good at projecting what I can get into.

Thank you!

Michigan, USC, UT Austin?

What state do you live in?

When doing research, look for engineering schools with ABET accreditation. Understand if engineering is a direct admit program, or if not, what are the requirements to get in. Same for business. Research how easy it is to take both engineering and business classes, as well as double major/minor.

Engineering is a particularly tough admit at most schools, USC (i assume south carolina) and Clemson would not be safeties. (maybe USC if you are in state)

NC State and UNC Chapel Hill might be matches if you are in state (if you have it, what does Naviance show?), they are reaches for OOS engineering

Georgia Tech (both OOS and in-state) and Northeastern are reaches.

Lehigh and Bucknell have business and engineering, and double majors are possible.

More schools with engineering (some are targets, some highly likelies, many also have business schools too).
Miami of Ohio
Drexel
U Hartford
Clarkson
Quinnipiac
Ohio University
ASU
U Iowa
Iowa State
Dayton
U Alabama

I currently live in NC but my scores would get my in state tuition at USC (South Carolina), but I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

Naviance shows that Duke would be my only reach, which I found concerning. Georgia Tech is definitely not a match which confused me so I just disregarded the rest.

I don’t really know what I was thinking last night but what I really want is a school that has a strong Engineering program and a strong Business program in case I dislike Engineering and want to switch.

I’m not looking to go to school off the East Coast unless it is a reach and I get accepted.

You need to determine your budget, but I think you have a good start for a list.

What about VTech? Case Western?

UT Austin admission to both engineering and business is extremely competitive.

Not all schools would allow a switch into business. There are some schools that have an engineering major with a business focus. One of the names they use for this is management engineering. You might also be interested in systems engineering. You could also get an MBA after an engineering degree.

Engineering and business admissions are both much more selective than the general university admissions. Naviance can be misleading. Schools where people got in with an ACT of 28 or 29 or 30 for an English degree would have similar results to you applying with a 33 for engineering or business.

I am fortunate to be in a position where price is not a factor for me.

I was looking at VT and I will most definitely be applying there  I will try to get honors but it is rare at my school.

I will looking into both management engineering and systems engineering  One of the main reasons I was looking at Duke was because the switch from Pratt to Trinity is very simple (my brother decided he didn’t want Computer and Electrical Engineering anymore, and switched into Trinity the next semester), so I would have a few more options.

Thanks for the replies!

Yes definitely look at Va Tech and U Tennessee Knoxville. I think NCSU Honors and NCSU Engineering are both a reach for you in state. UNC only has Biomedical Engineering and it’s a joint program with NCSU, so I think that would be a reach as well. What is your class rank? UNC is big on class rank. You’d need to be top 10% and even that is no guarantee. Many kids from NC that I know with your stats ended up at Tennessee for Engineering and are very happy there.

Im currently 54/391 in my calss, but my school is the #1 public school pulled from for both NCSU as well as UNC and #2 for Duke (behind NCSSM). We normally get around 45 students accepted to NCSU for engineering each year, and around 30 end up going. UNC normally pulls around 25-35 students and around 20 go each year.

My school is known for having deflated percentages as our top 10% is top 1-2% in the state, which makes it really tough. Again, im not extremily educated on the college decision process, so I dont know if the actual school makes a whole lot of a difference.

Also my class score is greatly decreased because my school also offers IB which pushes them to the front of the class. Based on the record of who gets into the schools, kids with a seemingly worse class rank (AP Students) get into better schools.

I don’t know if that’s actually what happens, that’s just what I’ve observed. We got 11 accepted to duke last year and 7 accepted this year, and only 3 were IB between both years, even though they were much higher on the class rank.
