Engineering School Chances?

Hi! I am a rising senior in high school, and I was wondering what people thought of my chances of getting into these schools for mechanical engineering:
Clemson University (in state)
University of South Carolina (in state)
Georgia Tech (top choice)
Duke University
Brown University
Vanderbilt
MIT
NC State

I have a 3.6 GPA (out of 4.0), my SAT score is a 1410 and my ACT score is a 30, (I will be retaking both). I volunteer and play in the masterclass and district orchestra. I am a captain of my school’s science team and I got 2nd place in a state-wide engineering competition. The AP courses I have already taken are Human Geography, Statistics, World History, Chemistry, Language and Composition, US History, and Psychology (I have gotten 4s and 5s on all of them). Next year my AP courses will be BC Calculus, Biology, Government, Microeconomics, and Physics 1 and 2. I also have college credit in 2 intro engineering classes from taking dual credit classes.

Please let me know if there is anything I should do to better my chances, also if there are any other schools that you know about! Thanks!

Also, are there any useful minors/ double majors that I should do to work in renewable energy? Thank you so much!

Your chances for in-state are solid. However, your SAT score is a tad lower than the average for the USC Honors College which is a 1430. However, its gonna be difficult to get admission out-of-state. Your SAT score is lower than the average for all of these schools except NC State. You might wanna improve your SAT Score to a 1450 or maybe even a 1500 to boost your chances. Your ec’s are decent. However, you might have wanted to add more engineering related extra-curriculars. Maybe join a robotics or try to intern at a local engineering company.

However, Clemson is a pretty good engineering school. While it doesn’t rival Georgia Tech, it still has many good engineering programs. In fact, I think Clemson’s engineering program is better than Duke, Brown, and Vanderbilt’s.

Apply early to GaTech so you have the flexibility of knowing your results
