This question if mainly for my critical reading. I have gotten a 600 in math and a 560 in writing its not that great but its fine. My reading is very bad i get around 400s. I want to get into njit / rutgers and in order to do that just need a 500 on reading.

That being said i need some reading tips to get my reading score up by just 10 points

1) Is it better for me to read the whole passage or read the part that the questions are talking about on the fact that I need a 500.

2) College board or Princeton Review for the SAT Practice?

3) With my current problem am i better off for the act?

If you guys have any tips at all for the reading comprehension please share it since any help is great.

Thanks for reading and helping!

First of all, change your attitude to the SAT. Don’t settle for a low score in your mind. It doesn’t matter that you need only those numbers, you should honestly want to improve. Why? Because this is not just a test. SAT is measuring the most important tool in our lives - critical thinking. If you improve on it, you won’t just get a higher score - your life quality will improve too.

Try reading the passages along with the questions. This way you will concentrate only on a little part of the relevant text. Have in mind that when the lines are named, you should read a bit above and a bit after to catch the context.

First work on Princeton’s tests and all the other material that is not College Board’s. Leave College Board’s tests for last otherwise you will waist your precious material. CB tests are the most precious because they will give you the most accurate score.

Since I think SAT’s score is more valuable, I advocate SAT, but see what’s better for you. Can you take both? Or maybe your ACT score would be much higher? Think…

I just took a CR test and got a 630. I never read the whole passage. I only read the parts that are relevant to the questions. For example, I start with reading the first question, then finding the answer in the passage. I never have any troubles finding answers because they are usually in chronological order with the questions.

I’ve had good luck using the method mentioned above–read the question first then go look at the passage. Less info to juggle as you read that way. Try it and see if it helps you get better!

The first poster is right–save your CB tests for the end.

My understanding is that whatever one gets you the better score is the best test for you. Have you tried taking an ACT Test to see how you scored?

thanks alot guys this means a lot to me. i will try what myolie said and its not that i want just a 500 but the fact that its seems to be really hard for me to even get out of 400s…
