I currently have a low B in the class because I have been scoring very low on my tests. I really need help ASAP because I want to improve my grade. Like on the tests, for me it is so difficult to apply what I learned to situations. My current study method is not working, and I do not know what to do. Lately I’ve been so stressed and disappointed since I am letting my parents down, when I promised I would get a 4.0 by the end of this year. I never had any trouble with achieving a 4.0 until this junior year, and it frustrates me. :((
AP Bio involves a copious amount of memorization, which you may not be used to. You have to be ready to use flashcards, read the material multiple times, and watch lectures. I actually suggest watching CrashCourse Bio on Youtube after you’ve read the chapter and taken notes, as the videos do a pretty good job of covering all the material in a concise way. Get the AP prep book now and read that as well, since it serves as a good review throughout the year. Good luck!
@h0kulani Thank you so much! And which AP prep book do you think is best for review throughout the year?
I used Princeton Review, though I’m told that Barron’s has a more in-depth analysis. It over-prepares you, which is better than knowing too little. I think that’ll be good for year-long prep, and then use PR for a review when the AP comes up.
I took AP Bio and got an A all four quarters. DO NOT WORRY, it will be okay. The absolute best way to be able to apply the information is to read the textbook. Don’t feel you’re letting your parents down, it’s an AP science class, t h e y a r e t o u g h. You must be ready for failure at least a few times in the class, not literal F’s but in your terms a C or B. A great tactic for ANY AP class is to right down exactly what the teacher says, teachers LOVE to hear themselves talk. The way they talk is usually translated to the test and do not feel stupid to ask questions or meet with your teacher after school. They get paid to help you, use it. As for study methods, do it in chunks, separate the information into reasonable catogories and just study them a week in advance, a little bit each night. It’s scientifically proven that chunking helps you memorize a lot more as it helps you retain the information over a longer period of time. Hope this helps, you’ll do fine, let me know if you need anything. Peace.
@duke1021 Thank you! I’m going to try record the lectures now since I kind of write real slow plus my teacher talks real fast.
Instead of recording lectures, supplement with Khan Academy videos

You will get a different view on things plus different practice problems to do
