hey there,
I’m having a tough time choosing between ucla and uiuc for an electrical/computer engineering major, since I got into both. Here are a few points I’ve come up with for comparison:
cost: ucla = 60k, uiuc = 45k
ranking: ucla is higher overall, however uiuc is higher for virtually every field of engineering (uiuc is approx 5, while ucla is around 12)
setting: I prefer LA to urbana champaign which is apparently in the middle of nowhere.
I’d go UCLA all the way! Better weather, better name recognition, great program. UIUC is fantastic, but I’d give UCLA the nod. Of course, that’s just me and my personal preference. My advice would be to visit both on admitted student days and see which one feels more like a place you could see yourself spending 4 years.
If money isn’t problem, visit both schools and pick the one you really feel attached to. If your family is money-sensitive, UIUC would be better choice
I GOT INTO CARNEGIE MELLON CIT!!! I guess I’ll do computer engineering.
If I’m going there (and I really want to ), I’ll have to figure out how to pay the 70k tho (I’m hoping to get some fin aid) my parents may or may not pay the entire cost. @mattyicecold If only I could give my UCLA acceptance to you @MYOS1634 I do have other options (safeties w/ scholarship) I just shortlisted these two
every one else thanks for your replies, tbh I didn’t really expect to get into cmu (especially since i got wait listed for my third choice MCS ) xD
@paul2752 my parents income bracket is ~120k, and I have one younger sibling. So i prolly dont qualify for need based. And no, they haven’t given anything as yet.
Unless your parents/grandparents were diligent to put money away, another $15K a year may be a lot. $120K for family of 4 should put you into the bracket to need CMU financial aid. $120K means you clear about $80 so they can’t pay $60 K per year for you!
