Need help, new in this thing.

Hi. First of all, sorry for my english, I make a lot of mistakes when I write in this language. The reason why I create this thread is because I have some questions I hope you people can answer me...

I'm 16 years old, on Dec. 2008 I will have my high school diploma. I'm from Latin America (more precisely, Argentina). And I considered the idea of studying in the USA. My intention is to study medicine. I did some research and I saw all about these exams like SAT, ACT, TOEFL, etc. I'm willing to take them and study hard for them in order to be able to study abroad.

I have also seen that, like everywhere else there are different levels of colleges (excellent colleges, very good colleges, average colleges). In the case I get a high mark on my SAT's and in other exams that I have to take, in which type of college would I be able to study? I mean... Do I have ANY chance on an Ivy League, or in a 'not Ivy but very close to an Ivy' college? This is important to me because, if I'm going to study abroad I'm not going to just ANY college, at least I want to study in a good college (I hope you understand my point, I'm not asking Harvard)

Well that's all. Sorry if this info is somewhere else, or if my post is too badly written. Thanks for reading. I'm hoping to see a reply soon, Daniel.

Hi! First of all, good SAT scores are not the only thing you need to go to Ivy-like schools. You also need to be highly involved in extracurriculars and have amazing essays. Not even doing all that assures a place in an Ivy school because thousands of well-qualified students apply there, so nobody can guarantee you get in. There's no "perfect solution" to get into those schools.

But studying in the US is not just about studying in a well-known university. There are hundreds of good universities here, and you can find a school that suits your needs and is not very well ranked. For example, after reading their brochure, I simply fell in love with Macalester, even if it's not a high top school. You can also search for the best university departments for your intended major. You may find a school that is not that hard to get in like Ivys. I hope it helps.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me or anybody else around here.

I just want to say that you can't study medicine as an undergraduate student, just as a graduate student.

Hope this helps.

Don't get blinded by the Ivies. Look beyond. Go by fit, not by name.

No. 1 piece of advice you need.

hey Daniel! if you graduate on Dec 2008, you need to apply for the class 2013which starts on sep 2009, so you have a lot of time to prepare for all the tests and to improve ur english!
