Hi,

I'm new to this forum and I will be an FPF student this upcoming Fall. I was offered a Unit 3 double but I really wanted Unit 1 so I talked to Housing and they were able to find me a Unit 1 double. However, this double is something called a green room. Apparently, it allows for a more sustainable environment and better living conditions but from time to time there will be people in your dorm on tours seeing the "green room." Also, my roommate will be a sophomore, not a freshmen. Does anyone know more about this?

So now I'm stuck. My deadline is tomorrow and I have to decide between unit 3 and unit 1. Any ideas?

I got Unit 1 Double, which is what I wanted, but I got it with a drawback? or is the green room a benefit?

What would you choose? Unit 3 Double or Unit 1 Double Green Room?

Please Help! Any help would be appreciated!!

Thank you!

it depends how much privacy you would like, since you said people will be “visiting” or do you not mind visitors once in a while? Also, you should ask them how often people will be coming in and is there a set time for the tours? Would you like to be in your room when other people are in it, or do you have enough trust that they will not touch anything, etc…Does the green room cost the same? more? or less? does it matter to you?
A benefit about having a roommate that is a sophomore is that s/he can give you advice/tips, etc.
Also, you should consider that unit 3 is closer to main campus…good luck making your choice!

Unit 3 has Cafe 3 (and the adjacent Bear Market), which is only open Monday-Thursday during the year. However, it’s closer to Telegraph and the entrance to Sather Gate.

Unit 1 has Crossroads (and the adjacent Den), which is open all week, and is closer the entrance containing Kroeber Fountain.

Are your classes more uphill (like Pimental, Latimer, Etcheverry etc.), or downhill (like Dwinelle, VLSB, Mulford, etc.)?

Personally, I’d choose Unit 1. Telegraph can get sketchy at night.

the green room costs the same. there are no additional costs.

im an EECS major so most of my classes will be uphill (evans, le conte, soda, cory). I want Unit 1 too but I’m iffy on this green room thingy since I can’t get more info about this. Today is the first time I have heard it.

so you don’t want to be in a room that allows for a more sustainable environment…ie you hate saving the environment = you hate the world?..

The fact that it is a green room really shouldn’t affect your decision at all. Sure, you’ll get some random visitors in your room, but I would bet on them not showing up during key times like when you’re sleeping or partying. Having a sophomore roommate is not a bad thing because they can give you advice and such. Just make sure to befriend the others on your floor and building as well.

I’d go for Unit 1. I’ve never heard of the green room program, but I wouldn’t want to walk several more blocks uphill everyday for two semesters. Also, unlike Cafe 3, Crossroads is open every day of the week (which can be good for convenience… or bad if you get sick of the food).
