Need Help Picking High Reaches

@Veryapparent, it’s funny, but I completely forgot about Davidson.

Her stats are a little above their average, but that admit rate is low - 20%. Yikes.

Maybe a super high reach. No EA there, so that gives her some time to take a look at it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

@moooop, good to know about UVA. She knows it’s tough to get into, but I don’t think either of us realized it was that hard. Those are some great schools your child got into. Congrats.

@inthegarden, I was all over her about Miami a while back, but couldn’t get her motivated to visit. Someone just mentioned it to her recently, and I suggested a visit. I think the EA deadline might work in my favor, and I might get her there over the next couple of weeks.

Do you mind if I PM you about Miami?

Have you looked at Washington & Lee?
It seems to be about as selective as Cornell, so it would be a reach.

Although it’s the US News #10 “national” LAC, it has a rather high percentage of business/accounting majors (nearly 20%, compared to ~zero at many other top LACs.) It’s southern and relatively conservative, with a big Greek presence.

Thought I’d chime in re: Notre Dame. Yes it is a pretty high reach given her stats and the fact that ND has a reputation as being score conscious, but it might be worth a shot. It is a school that really looks for “fit” and the supplements would be a way to show that. Seems to check the other boxes re: school spirit and being more on the conservative side of the spectrum than a lot of other schools. She might have a tough time getting a direct admit into Mendoza, and while ND doesn’t offer a business minor per se, there is a minor in Business Economics (Micro, Macro, Stats, Intro Acctg, and Intro Finance) that my history major daughter picked up. While the school isn’t for everyone, both of my daughters ('17 and '19) had/are having fantastic experiences there.

@tk21769, I love Washington and Lee. I just mentioned it to her last night. I agree, it seems like a perfect fit, and it has the Business program. My only worry is that it might be a bit too conservative for her, but I’m sure she’d be fine.

She’s conservative, but not religious at all. She really doesn’t care how religious people are, or what religion people are, so I’m probably worrying about nothing. It’s definitely on the short list of reach schools to check out.

@ejcclc, thanks for the info on Notre Dame. I think she’s going to apply. Definitely a long shot, but she wants at least one really reachy school on her list. That’s awesome that your daughters both got in. Congrats.
