need help picking major!

First of all hello everyone.
I am a freshmen at CSUN (California State University Northridge) I want to major in Psychology and take the pre med classes. Now my question is can i still get into a medical school with a psychology major? Oh and i would like to go to UCLA medical school for my grad school. I need your advice. Let me know what i don't know and I should know about my career plan.

Thanks a bunch :D

Read this link. Do it. The short answer is yes, you can do psychology, but you should definitely read this thread.

Also, it is a BAD idea to hand pick the medical school you want to go to. Someone else will back me up on this. Medical school admissions are tough, and most if not every student is happy just getting in to a medical school, much less his or her first choice.
I’m not saying you can’t get there, but most applicants apply to 15-20 schools because they know regardless of ability they will not get in to all the ones they want to go to, even if they have competitive applications.

Around 44% of applicants even got in to at least 1 school last year, so you should be focused on getting in to a medical school in the first place before you try to handpick where you go. Don’t fall in love with the school until the acceptance letter is in your hand.

Right.

Do not get your heart set on any one med school…especially UCLA. It is VERY hard to get admitted there and you’re coming from a CSU.

Do your best and apply to 10-20 med schools.

Yes…you can major in psych.

Thanks a lot guys  I understand what you are trying to say and I would try my best :D

Trying your best but not overly concerned about which school you will actually get in is the right attitude on the premed track.

Just one data point: there was one applicant, with 3.95/40 from a top 5 college, and 2-3 years of research experiences, who got into UCLA medical school in the 2009-2010 application cycle. He did not get into any other medical school for some unknown reason (The only clue may be that he is an ORM who was too academic-focused but did not pursue the PhD track instead, and possibly lacked non-academic ECs and was therefore perceived as too nerdy? Also, maybe his MCAT prevented him from applying to a wide range of medical schools?)
