I have went from a 22 composite score to a 25, to a 27, and now I just scored a 27 again. All of my scores in the individual sections have increased drastically (with a 32 English) but my reading plummeted for the first time. Does anyone have any advice for how I can reach a 30+ for the April administration? And how in the world can I go from a 29 reading all the way to a 22? Was the Feb. reading hard?

The only reason you may have had problems with Feb reading is if you did the passages in order. The problem with that is that the first passage was a pretty hard fiction passage, so if u lost confidence or time, it would affect you a lot.
The second and third were simple passages.
The fourth was hard if you did not read the passage carefully and made silly mistakes. The only reason this would happen is if you ran out of time - which was probably since you started with the first fiction passage.

Anyway, other than that, reading is a lot based on luck. So next time hope that your chances will be better :D

thanks a lot. Yeah that was true. I had to reread the snake passage 3-4 times when I am usually used to just skimming it and scoring high 20’s. I will start skipping the 1st passage too

I’ve seen you ask questions and post as much as I have wanago2college. We know that practice is the best. My composite went up 6 points and it was all because of using those accurate practice tests. Just continue doing that

Canderson11, what do you mean by “accurate practice tests”? My ds needs to improve his score when he takes it in June.

@mominwestlake: He means that your ds needs to take actual practice tests made by the ACT company. Buying the Red Book (The Real ACT Prep Guide) would help because it has 3 real practice tests.

Also the 3 practice tests in the Preparing the ACT booklets are online also. Since they are made by the ACT they are good practice. That’s 6 practice tests. Most people find that Princeton Review is also very accurate.

canderson: can you provide the link to the 3 practice tests you are referring to in the Preparing the ACT booklets? my daughter could only find the 2009-2010 booklet
