Hi, I have a college list that I've formed with the help of my college counselor. I need to reduce this list because it is currently very long.

The schools on this list vary a lot from one another, but I was told each one has it's own benefits.

There are some on this list that I can clearly get into and others that will be a reach, and I know this.

I was just wondering if anyone could supply some useful information pertaining to a few of these that will help me make my decisions a bit easier.

I am probably looking to major in economics or finance, so any information that you have on those programs, or the schools in general, would be appreciated.

Here is my current list:

Albion College
Allegheny College
American University
Beloit College
Bentley University
Bradley University
Bryant University
College of Charleston
Drew University
Gettysburg College
Goucher College
Guilford College
Illinois Wesleyan University
Knox College
Lake Forest College
McDaniel College
Miami University, Oxford
Muhlenberg College
University of Pittsburgh
Quinnipiac University
Ripon College
Roger Williams University
Rollins College
Syracuse University
Union College
Ursinus College

You should research some of these things yourself. College confidential users should only answer any questions you may have if you are confused about something stated on these college websites or something. Our general opinions shouldn’t have any impact on your list because we don’t know what you’re like and what you would like in a college.

into each program on economics and/or finance and see which is stronger or not and the classes they offer. If you have any questions, we can help you from there.

I wasn’t asking anyone to do any research. I was asking if anyone had any prior knowledge about any of these schools that they could share. Maybe some intangibles. Sorry if that was unclear. As you can tell by my post count, I am very new to the site.

Is your goal to get a job after graduation, or go to PhD or other graduate study?

If you want to go to PhD study in economics, check the course catalogs for (a) intermediate microeconomics and econometrics courses with math prerequisites more advanced than frosh calculus, and (b) strong math and statistics offerings.

Also, run the net price calculators on each school to see what you will pay after applying financial aid.

I don’t know where you live but I am impressed with your guidance counselor - she has chosen a nice group of schools, many less known, more regional colleges, you are lucky to have her/him.

One of the first things I’ve noticed is the size difference - how big a school do you want? Some are much larger than others. Location is another factor - rural, suburban, urban? Finally, some are more “structured” in their approach than others; some have more strict required classes, some more flexibility. If you research these three items and you have strong feelings about what you want from this viewpoint, it will help narrow down your list.

Once you narrow it down a bit and have more specific questions on fewer schools we will be better able to help you out. Good luck!
