@Lynx: Still looking up laptops for you, hang on :)

@Shoyon: The laptops were released in Taiwan around a month or so ago. Some retailers have started importing them ahead of the US launch date. I’m not sure if that’s the case with Xotic, but their U45JCs have been on sale now, even though the U35JC is still on preorder.

Ah, thanks again. School doesn’t start till Sept. for me, however I’d like to have it relatively soon (SC2 doesn’t run well even on my old current desktop). Do you think xotic will be shipping end of this month or would I get it sooner ordering from amazon?

Thanks again! You’re definitely the most helpful person out of several forums I’ve asked similar q’s on.

Lynx: I’ve looked at some Asus laptops, but after shopping around I have to suggest the HP Envy series. They’re truthfully a better value for non-gaming, media-editing purposes and are much more mobile with better battery lives. I was able to customize an HP Envy 15 with an upgraded i5 530 processor, HP Slice battery, and external DVD player for $1,375. I also got an Envy 17 with an i7 720 with 6GB RAM, HD 1920x1080 display, HP slice battery, and internal DVD drive for $1,575.

I was actually trying to stay away from the HP laptops as I’m not too fond of them. I was actually going to buy an Asus, but I don’t know enough about them to know what Series is best for me. But the HP Envy 15 that you customized might be one that I could consider. I know I made this thread saying I wouldn’t be doing any gaming, but gaming is probably something I may do, but very little. In fact the only gaming I’d probably be doing would be a game called Ragnarok Online and you just download and install that, but it doesn’t take up much room on a laptop. As for the media-editing stuff; I would be doing very little of that. I would probably be uploading just a couple of videos, but nothing I’m majoring in or using career wise. I just want something that can handle it as I’m sure the Asus U45JC probably could. And I want to thank you again for all your help. I really do appreciate the time you’ve taken to help search for a laptop for me as well as helping others. =]

Sorry again with my q’s. However I’ve read that the U35Jc/U45Jc has a heat vent at the bottom that will make it very uncomfortable while on your lap. In addition the plastic palm rests are fingerprint magnets and not as comfortable as the cool, brushed aluminum on the U30Jc. Did you notice these with the U35Jc/U45Jc?

The underside heat vent on the U35Jc combined with the potentially long preorder/back-order time could be deal breakers. These are pointing me back towards the U30Jc-B1

I’d actually recommend the UL30A over the U30JC; I’m not a huge fan of the U30JC body or battery life.

And regarding the lap comment, I actually have to say this:

Avoid putting your laptop on your lap!

I know it sounds odd, given the name (laptop), but what happens is when a laptop is on an unstable surface like your lap, the laptop is prone to rocking and small shocks, which can end up damaging your harddrive. Unless you invest in a solid state drive, I insist to everyone I know to keep their laptops on desks/tables.

Beautiful machine; I’ve the UL30A myself and love it. :)

Haha, ok thanks r31ncarnat3d. All these years and I never knew that! I figured that on the bus I will probably be taking between home and college I’d just have it on my lap. However I’ll try to wait for the U35Jc to release, and possibly wait a little longer just to hear some reviews on it!
