Hi I need help with my extracurriculars (duh). I’m currently a freshman so I know I have time but I go to a Title 1 school where there are very few clubs and APs are nonexistent. However, I’m middle class so that might not help me much. I self studied AP Biology and I think I did well. I tried for USABO but didn’t even make it to semifinals. I’m the only female programmer on my school’s First Robotics team and I’m in Jazz band. My GPA is 4.0. I also skipped geometry and am taking Algebra II/trig. I need help and suggestions on what to do!
I think things sound pretty good already. Robotics and Jazz band are great ECs. USABO is tough, and you are only a frosh — you could take another shot at that. Does your school have Quiz Bowl? Try that if they do. Can you volunteer outside of school somewhere?
Thank you for your help! My school doesn’t have Quiz Bowl but I’m trying to start a Science Olympiad team-should I start that or a Quiz Bowl team?
Yes I could volunteer-but I don’t exactly know which kind I would be passionate at.
Anything you do outside of going to class will be valued by admissions officers. If options in your school are limited you could always volunteer in your community, get a job etc. My son’s most significant EC was done outside of school and it was no issue.
Thank you! Does self-studying APs count for anything? My school only has three.
