THE KITE RUNNER
In a literary work, a minor character, often known as a foil, possesses traits that emphasize, by contrast or comparison, the distinctive characteristics and qualities of the main character. For example, the ideas or behavior of the foil might be used to highlight the weakness or strengths of the main character.

Write an essay in which you analyze how the relationship between a major character and the foil in the novel directly impacts the major character's growth as a person.

so far:
The Kite Runner, a novel by Khaled Hosseini, is focused on the relationship between Amir, the protagonist, and Hassan, Amirs best friend, servant, and half-brother. Hassan can be considered Amirs foil because everything he does and says shapes Amirs behavior and personality, and even causes Amir to envy him. Hassan possess ideal characteristics which contrast Amirs characteristics to a great extent. While Hassan is patient, brave, loyal, and selfless, Amir is impatient, a coward, a traitor, and selfish. Hassan earns Babas (Amirs father) attention without even trying while Amir constantly strives to make Baba love him and approve of him.

Hassan views himself as Amirs friend and does anything and everything to make his friend happy. In contrast, Amir views Hassan as only a pastime and a servant: when there is no one to play with, he turns to Hassan.
