Need help with reading

Hi guys,

I’m a Junior and I took a practice test a few weeks ago and scored a 30 on the reading section. On the April ACT, though, I completely bombed it with a 24 :(. I’ve practiced one reading section every week for the past 7 weeks.
I have tried the strategy of skimming, answering line specific questions first, then answering the main idea ones; however, I find my self running out of time with only 4-5 minutes left for the last passage.
Since I am not a native speaker and read relatively slowly, skimming barely lets me comprehend the text. Sometimes while reading the prose-fiction passage, my brain takes in nothing and I have reread.

Thanks in advance.

Honestly just find a strategy that works for you and stick with it. You might get a 29 with one strategy and then as you continue to practice like that your score bumps. Personally, I always read the passage semi-quickly (and to try and remember things, I always picture what I’m reading in my head) and then go to the questions. Normally I can answer all but one or two questions, which I will then look through the passage to find the answer. I’m a 31C but I got a 34 on the reading test so it’s worked out pretty well. I started with a 25 in practices and improved my score

Best of luck!
