I’m currently a junior in AP Calculus AB, and I’m struggling (I have a D at the end of first quarter). I’m doing fine in most of my other classes and I have had a 4.0 GPA unweighted thus far in high school. Is there any way I could drop the class and save my 4.0? I could still get a B in the class granted I work my tail off. Any advice on what I could do to improve my grade? And should I drop the class 1/4 through the school year? Any help would be appreciated. Also, if you guys have any useful resources for AP Calculus, as well as AP Biology, AP Physics C, and AP Language & Composition, I’d appreciate that as well.
If you’re struggling, I would highly suggest you practice a lot at home. If topics are unclear, you could look them up on Khan Academy, possibly even practicing to get ahead.
What exactly is the problem? Are you unable to focus in class? Do you have low test scores, or are you not turning in work on time?
What topic are you covering this week?
I’m not a huge fan of Khan Academy; I find them amazingly dry. But the idea of finding videos is a good one.
Take a look at youtube, teachertube and educreations— all have videos made by real teachers currently in the classroom.
@bjkmom What’s wrong about Khan Academy?
Ehh, kind of boring and not super great at being interesting, and Sal’s voice does get a little annoying after 4 hours. If I had to guess, @Not128k .
Personally, I love KA as an idea but I really only use the practice problems. I liked the problems for limits so much that I would intentionally miss every fifth one so I wouldn’t finish the activity and have to restart it, lol. I’m not a big fan of watching videos anyway, I much prefer to read material.
^This website has some calculus-related material, and it’s honestly my favorite math learning resource. My only complaint is that they don’t have some of the topics I want, haha. It’s focused on ideas over how to do problems, which is huge for me. Now I actually know what e (the transcendental number) means and have a better understanding of limits.
Nothing is “wrong” with Khan Academy, I simply prefer teacher-made videos.
