Hey guys,
Calc is kicking my butt, and I really want to get my act together before the end of my semester (which isn’t for a few weeks). My problem is that my teacher doesn’t really teach, and for me to learn math, I need to see sample problems done and explained.
Anyone have any videos, websites, books or anything that worked for them? I’m really not a math person
Thanks, y’all!
I’m a high school math teacher.
Try teacher sites. There’s always Khan Academy, though I tend to find them incredibly dry.
But google your high school, neighboring high schools, any decent high school you’ve ever heard of. The odds are that the Calc AB/ BC teacher either has links to videos or-- more and more common-- has recorded some him/herself.
Or go to educreations and find some there.
Good luck!!!
@bjkmom thank you! my main issue with Khan Academy is that I find the videos boring, and that (more importantly) there are never videos on the material I struggle with.
I second Khan Academy and if you’re in AP Calculus AB/BC definitely pick yourself a copy of Barons. Also, reading the textbook (we use Larsons at my school) is a very efficient way to fill in the gaps that your teacher might have missed. I truly do empathize with your situation, I’ve also had many teachers who really have no business being teachers.
@marshmallowpop what do you struggle with? Maybe I or another member might be able to direct you towards a more specific resource for the topic you are having trouble with.
if you think the chain rule ain’t there
you’d best check yourself
@granolaislyfex I can’t really specify… it’s just calc in general. Like, I’m generally able to do simpler problems of whatever we’re covering in class, but as soon as anything becomes more complex, I get lost
It’s more like sometimes I just don’t know where to start, I guess?
I’m a second semester freshman in college right now and currently taking Calc 1. I was absolutely dreading it because I am horrible at math but I managed to survive and am keeping up my grades (hope to get a B+ or A- by the end of the semester!) through these resources:
This playlist on youtube is a lifesaver: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL58C7BA6C14FD8F48
Online dervative calculator: http://www.derivative-calculator.net/ Now I’m not suggesting to cheat but if I get stuck on a problem I usually enter it into here. Not only will it give you the answer but it also shows you the steps and what rules you should use to solve it
The Calculus AB math study guide on sparknotes: http://www.sparknotes.com/math/
Best of luck
Math Tutor DVDs may have something helpful.
Paul’s Online Math Notes are pretty good.
It’s a shame that Crash Course doesn’t have Calc.
Thank you @michigangirll @Palomina @hungryteenager! I’ve found that PatrickJMT’s youtube videos help a lot, but I’ll try your resources as well!
haha, my youtube link was actually a link to Patrick JMT’s calc 1 playlist! isn’t he amazing?? I would be so lost in calc if it wasn’t for his videos
My teacher uses worksheets from Calculus Maximus, an online website where you can find answer keys as well with a ton of work shown for every problem. And another online calculator is WolframAlpha, so if you really get stuck, plug something into that and see if you can figure it out from there.
@michigangirll seriously, he’s so clear and he explains EVERYTHING.
I wish he taught me math :’(
Thank you @BPearlman97!
