I hope all of you enjoyed my extremely witty pun in the topic title. Anyways, I am at a crossroads about my major. I have a definite interest in economics and accounting and was hoping to do a career in that field somewhere(especially accounting), but as I can't afford the schools that offer actual accounting programs(namely NYU and USC), I'll be going to SD.

So basically right now I'm a Structural Engineering major, but thats only because I did not get Aerospace Engineering(my first choice major), and if I were to stay in engineering I would switch to Electrical Engineering because I have some interest in the subject and I feel as though the opportunist with a BS in EE are a lot(summer research, job market after graduation).

My reservation for doing Econ in SD and possibly going onto a graduate program is that I feel like a BA in Econ doesn't give me many opportunities to have summer internships and the job market after college. But after researching more into the majors SD offers I found managerial science.

Basically I don't really understand the Managerial Science program. I understand that it is very similar to Econ, but with a math emphasis - and thus I had a few questions about this. If you know anything, any sort of input would be greatly appreciated. If I took the Managerial Science route, I'd like major in Managerial Science and either do a minor/double-major(likely minor) in Applied Mathematics(BA) or Mathematics and Econ(BA). Basically, this is what I'm unsure of:

1) How is the job market for people with a BS in Management Science? What kinds of jobs would be available to those with undergraduate degrees?

2) How are the department's connections(i.e. I know a lot of the engineering departments have a strong connection to many of the engineering companies around and can thus help provide intern opportunity). I was wondering does the Management Science/Econ department offer such things to undergraduates?

3) How are summer research opportunities and internships. I know SD is a very strong research institute and theres lots of research opportunities for Engineering and Biology majors. How are the opportunities for undergraduate in Management Science?

4) Would I be able to use my undergraduate degree in Management Science to get my start in accounting?

Basically, the job and internships are very important to me since by the time I graduate I'll have a younger brother that'll be going off to college and its just not financially feasible for my mom to support to me if I can't find some sort of income after college. I do plan on doing a MBA if I elect to go into Managerial Science, though I would need to work 2 years before doing so. In a nutshell I'm asking, would doing a BS in Management Science with a minor in Mathematics give me the opportunities to help me pursue a career and further said career.
