So I love history, I always have and it has become my passion. So I ( An upcoming high school senior) would like to major in it in college. My biggest concern is I’m not sure what type of job I can get with a History degree and that scares me so much. Does anyone have one or have any advice on the types of jobs possible? Is it worth going to school for or should I find a new passion?
History with teach you to read, write, and communicate much better than list college graduates. You won’t be recruited for that major specifically but for the skills it helped you develop - and the ways in which you proved you’d mastered them (leadership, projects, research, conference presentation, internships…)
What are your current stats, club involvement, Humanities/social science classes taken?
History majors can do nearly anything in the world!
History majors become lawyers, investment bankers, physicians (if they take the required science courses in addition to their major), actors, professors and teachers, corporate CEOs, senators, etc., etc. A huge number of liberal arts graduates pursue a career unrelated to their major— using their skills of reading, writing, and critical thinking to excel in any chosen profession!
Take a look at the graphic on the last page of the student profile from Williams. It shows how people from all different majors pursue all different careers:
