Need quick help with math problem

At north high school the ski club has 15 members and the debate club has 12 members. If a total of 11 students belong to only one of the two clubs, how many belong to both clubs?

How do you do this- I figured it out by doing a Venn diagram, but there has to be an easier way...

Add the two club’s members (15+12=27), subtract by the number of students in only one club (27-11=16), then divide the number by 2 (16/2=8) to determine the number of students in both clubs.

add the total number of members in each club
15+12=27.
subtract the number of students who belong to only one of the clubs.
27-11=16
this means that 16 members belong to more than one club.
since there are two clubs, divide this by 2
16/2 = 8
therefore 8 students belong to both clubs.

jersey13 was faster

thank you, that’s what I thought, i just couldnt verbalize it
