West New Mexico University:

“Academically outstanding Hispanic students qualify for this scholarship covering housing, books, tuition and fees. Applicants must have been recognized through the National Hispanic Recognition Program. Once awarded, students must maintain continuing enrollment status and a 3.5 GPA.”

(So you still have to pay for meals, transportation, and personal expenses. Still, it’s a great deal.)

I just received a letter in the mail from the University of Arizona saying that as a national scholar, they will offey me a:

“5,000 - $17,500 with an additional $5,000 to recognize your National Scholar status. You will also receive a one-time award of $1,500 toward a UA Study Abroad program. As a recipient of a National Scholar award, you may also remain eligible for additional financial aid and scholarships from individual colleges or departments.”

This clears up what UA offers, still don’t know about ASU.

University of Oklahoma

Its not on their website, but they confirmed by e-mail. .

Thanks for all the hard work, @NW2this. Do you know if you can be both, National Hispanic Scholar AND National Merit Semifinalist? Does one preclude the other?

I would guess that you could get both but scholarships most likely would not double the award.

@TallyMom2017

You can get both designations, one kid at my child’s school got both and I am expecting my D to get both, but I’m pretty certain colleges will only give one scholarship. National Merit Corporation doesn’t give scholarships for NHRP.
If you are low income you could apply for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund https://hsf.net/, but it is not related to NHRP.

Thank you so much, @nw2this. I doubt that my daughter’s guidance counselor ever heard about NHRP. And we will have to wait for the new regional cut-off. I couldn’t find a 2016 date for cut-off release.

University of Chicago:

“considered for a renewable $4,000 per year merit-based scholarship sponsored by the University of Chicago.”

Hey again!

I just received a letter from the ASU honors college. For being a National Hispanic Scholar, they are offering me full out-of-state tuition for 8 semesters, admission to the honors college, and additional money for research and travel.

I hope this clears up what they offer!

jfleit, I am curious, how much additional money was offered from research and travel from ASU.

Barrets honors college additionally offers 1500 for research support and 1000 for travel expenses.

@nw2this Not related to NHRP but we received a letter this week from U of South Carolina. Not sure if that is one of the schools your looking for scholarships from but this letter was an app to apply for the 2016 Business @ Moore summer program. It’s all expense paid for the student and hotel accommodation for parents for first weekend (banquet, luncheon, tour of campus, etc.) Hope is student will be interested in applying to the school after spending the week there and there are scholarship opportunities available for 4 years for kids that participate. Online it says deadline was march 4. My son is not a SC resident, letter says it’s based on student’s SAT scores reported by college board and his deadline is March 25. Could be it’s been extended because of College Board delays in reporting scores not sure. He’s not applying so I haven’t looked into it further but want to pass along this info.
