Hello,
I am a Junior Mechanical Engineering Major studying at Clemson University. My GPA is a 3.51/4.0 and I plan to take the LSAT after I finish this year. Although they are not official, the prep classes I am taking for the LSAT predict that my score will be around 155-165. I am not sure how much campus involvement affects admissions but I am a member of Club Lacrosse, as well as 2 other academic clubs.
I am looking for some safety, target and reach law schools to apply to for Intellectual Property Law. Can anyone help me out with some recommendations?
Extracurriculars shouldn’t matter much unless they tie to your interests in life and what you plan to do with your JD.
Being a mechanical engineering major should be a plus in your overall career as a lawyer, and it should also help in your applications; IP lawyers are in high demand.
155-165 is a pretty big range so it’s tough to say where you should apply. I would consider schools in the part of the country where you plan to practice. If it’s the Southeast, Vanderbilt and Emory should be on your list, particularly if your score is towards 165; USC if you plan to be in South Carolina; and definitely NOT Charleston Law, Charlotte Law or any of the for-profit schools in the region.
